Overview

The ReVolt Bass is a 3-channel all-analog bass amp simulator and DI, designed to be the core of a bass rig, offering a range of tonal possibilities. It features a genuine 12AX7 preamp tube operating at high voltage to inject warmth and bite into the tone.

Function Description:

The ReVolt Bass acts as a versatile preamp, offering three distinct channels:

  • Classic Clean: This channel provides a clean bass tone with passive low and high-frequency voicing controls. The BASS knob attenuates or boosts frequencies below 80Hz (from -20dB to +20dB), while the TREBLE knob does the same for frequencies above 2.5kHz. The GAIN control adjusts the input gain, which can lead to signal distortion or clipping at extreme settings. The VOLUME control sets the output volume of this channel, positioned pre-FX Loop, allowing users to prevent overdriving subsequent devices.
  • Vintage Dirt: This channel delivers a vintage-inspired overdriven tone. The GAIN control adjusts the input gain, with higher settings leading to distortion or clipping. The VOLUME control sets the output volume of this channel, also positioned pre-FX Loop, to manage signal levels for subsequent devices.
  • Modern Drive: This channel offers a modern, driven bass tone. Similar to the Vintage Dirt channel, the GAIN control adjusts the input gain, which can introduce distortion or clipping. The VOLUME control sets the output volume, positioned pre-FX Loop, to prevent overdriving other devices in the signal path. This channel also features a DRY/WET control to adjust the balance between the dry input signal and the processed Modern Drive channel signal.

Both the Vintage Dirt and Modern Drive channels share a common EQ section, which includes:

  • BASS: Adjusts low-frequency content, attenuating or boosting frequencies below 80Hz (from -15dB to +7dB).
  • MID: Adjusts mid-frequency content, attenuating or boosting frequencies centered at 620Hz (from -10dB to +10dB).
  • TREBLE: Adjusts high-frequency content, attenuating or boosting frequencies above 2.5kHz (from -17dB to +6dB).

The ReVolt Bass also includes an expertly engineered Analog Cab Sim for seamless DI recording or live performance. For ReVolt Bass, this analog simulation is inspired by an Ampeg SVT-810E cabinet. This can be enabled via the CAB SIM switch on the front panel.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Input: 6.35mm (1/4") unbalanced TS jack, Impedance: 1MΩ.
  • SEND: 6.35mm (1/4") unbalanced TS jack, Max output level: 11dBu, Impedance: 10kΩ.
  • RETURN: 6.35mm (1/4") unbalanced TS jack, Max input level: 11dBu, Impedance: 1MΩ. Unbuffered, directly connected to Output when active.
  • OUT: 6.35mm (1/4") unbalanced TS jack, Max output level: 11dBu, Impedance: 300Ω. This output sends the dry signal of ReVolt's channels; the CAB SIM is never applied to this output.
  • MIDI IN/OUT: 3.5mm (1/8") TRS jack panel-mount connectors. MIDI adapter cables (TRS 1/4” jack to MIDI type A) are provided. Pinout: TIP=DIN 5, RING=DIN 4, SLEEVE=DIN 2.
  • BALANCED OUT: XLR, balanced. Impedance: 600Ω balanced, 300Ω unbalanced. Max output level: 11dBu.
  • 12V DC 600mA: 2.1mm mains power adaptor DC jack, negative center input voltage. Power consumption: approx. 6W. Current draw: 600mA.
  • Headphone Output: 1/8″ TRS jack socket, calibrated for headphones rated up to 100Ω. ReVolt's signal is mono, but the AUX IN can be heard in stereo via headphones. The cabinet simulation is also applied to this output.
  • AUX IN: Stereo input for connecting music players, with playback level controlled by the source.

Usage Features:

  • Channel Activation: Channels are activated via footswitches: CLEAN (green LED), VINTAGE DIRT (orange LED), and MODERN DRIVE (blue LED). Simultaneously pressing CLEAN and CRUNCH bypasses ReVolt.
  • 4-Cable Method (4CM): A switch on the front panel determines the behavior of ReVolt's effects loop and bypass. This allows for integration with an amplifier's effects loop, enabling ReVolt's preamp channels to feed only the amplifier's power amp.
    • Connectivity for 4CM:
      1. Instrument/pedalboard to ReVolt's IN.
      2. ReVolt's SEND to the amp's input.
      3. Amp's effects loop SEND to ReVolt's RETURN.
      4. ReVolt's OUT to the amp's effects loop return.
    • When bypassed in 4CM, the dry bass signal passes through the amp's input, preserving the amp's tone shaping. When a channel is active, ReVolt's preamp and tone stack are engaged.
  • DI Functionality: The BALANCED OUT allows direct connection to audio interfaces, monitors, or mixing desks. The GND/LIFT switch eliminates hum from ground loops.
  • Integration with Software: Includes a lifetime license to Wall of Sound and GENOME software for digital app- and plugin-based tone shaping (VST/AU/AAX/Standalone). The OUT output can be connected to an audio interface for use with Wall of Sound, or the BALANCED OUT (with CAB SIM disengaged) can be used with a mic preamp for processing with Wall of Sound.
  • DynIR Cabinet Collection: Includes the ReVolt: Series-B DynIR Cabinet Collection, featuring 10 DynIR captures inspired by leading guitar amplifier brands.
  • MIDI Control: ReVolt sends and receives Program Change (PC) messages (1 to 7 by default). MIDI Setup menus allow for customization of MIDI messages, including:
    • MIDI Monitor: Displays the type of MIDI message received (PC, CC, or SYSEX) via the RGB LED behind the tube window.
    • MIDI Learn: Assigns MIDI PC numbers to each ReVolt channel (including Boost states and Bypass Mode).
    • MIDI PC Number: Configures the starting MIDI PC message value for channel footswitches.
    • MIDI Channel: Configures which MIDI Channel ReVolt utilizes (default is 17 OMNI).
  • FX Loop: The FX loop can be configured per channel, with a default state of "All On." The FX Loop CC state can also be selected per channel.

Maintenance Features:

  • Setup Menu System: Accessed by holding down footswitch A and powering on the device. This system allows configuration of various settings, including FX loop defaults, MIDI monitor, MIDI learn, MIDI channel, MIDI PC number, FX loop MIDI CC, and firmware version/factory reset.
    • Navigation: Footswitch B moves to the next page, Footswitch A to the previous page, and Footswitch C enters a page or sub-menu.
    • Number Display: Values are displayed using channel LEDs: Channel A (100s), Channel B (10s), Channel C (units).
  • Firmware Version / Factory Reset: The setup menu allows users to view the current firmware version. A factory reset can be performed by pressing Channel A's footswitch three times within this menu.
  • Cleaning: Always use a dry and soft cloth without alcohol or solvents for cleaning. Keep the unit clean and free from dust.
  • Professional Servicing: All maintenance operations must be carried out by Two notes Audio Engineering approved service centers or qualified technicians. Users should not attempt to repair the product themselves.
  • Packaging: Retain original packing materials for safe transport if the product needs to be sent for service.
  • Warranty: OROSYS SARL warrants the product to be free of defects in parts and workmanship for two (2) years from the date of purchase for the original purchaser from an Authorized TWO NOTES AUDIO ENGINEERING dealer. The warranty is void if the serial number is defaced, or if the product is damaged by alteration, misuse, accident, or unauthorized repair attempts.
