Do you have a question about the Riester ri-sonic PCP-USB and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Riester ri-sonic PCP-USB and ri-sonic PCP-1 are electronic stethoscopes designed for converting internal body sounds, such as heart and lung sounds, into electronic signals for delivery to a compatible PC or mobile device. These devices are manufactured according to Directive 93/42 EEC and are intended for use by suitably trained personnel, such as doctors or medically trained persons (e.g., nurses), in a professional healthcare facility environment.

Function Description

The electronic stethoscope consists of two main elements: a chest piece and a cable with a plug.

  • ri-sonic PCP-USB: This model features a chest piece connected via a straight cable with a USB plug. The chest piece contains an embedded piezo sensor, an audio amplifier, an Analog to Digital Converter (ADC), and an Encoder to create a digitized stream. This data is then sent to the PC via the USB interface. The device derives its operating voltage from the 5V lead of the USB interface.
  • ri-sonic PCP-1: This model features a chest piece connected via a spiral cable with a 3.5mm stereo plug. The chest piece assembly includes a Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA), a piezo element (PE), an Enclosure Top piece, an Enclosure Bottom Piece, and a cable. The PCBA provides amplifier circuitry to raise the signal level from the PE to a level comparable to an electret microphone. This amplifier requires an operating voltage between 2 VDC and 5 VDC, typically supplied by the microphone input port of the connected device.

Both models are designed to provide sound data as specified, and the user must verify that the sensor's line data matches the requirements of the PC, mobile device, app, or software being used.

Usage Features

  • Installation:
    • ri-sonic PCP-USB: Simply plug the USB connector into the USB port of the PC. No additional software is required for basic PC usage. For specialized software, follow the software's instructions.
    • ri-sonic PCP-1: Plug the 3.5mm stereo plug into the Microphone port of the PC. No additional software is required for basic PC usage. For specialized software, follow the software's instructions.
  • Auscultation Sessions: The stethoscope is connected to a PC before an auscultation session. The chest piece is positioned on the patient's body (upper body) to capture body sounds, allowing doctors to hear them and satisfy clinical objectives.
  • Patient Population: Intended for all patients.
  • Environmental Conditions: Designed for use in a Professional Healthcare Facility Environment. If exposed to environmental conditions outside specified ranges, the unit should be checked for proper operation before reuse.
  • Cables: Cables are a strangulation hazard; keep them out of reach of infants and small children.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning and Disinfection:
    • To prevent cross-contamination, the stethoscope must be cleaned and disinfected regularly before each use.
    • The exterior can be cleaned with a damp cloth, optionally moistened with alcohol, until optically clean.
    • Use disinfection products (e.g., Disinfectant Bacillol AF from Bode Chemie GmbH / time 30s) strictly according to the manufacturer's instructions and national guidelines for proven effectiveness.
    • After disinfection, wipe the instruments with a damp cloth to remove any disinfectant residue.
    • Important: The ri-sonic PCP-USB / ri-sonic PCP-1 Chest Piece is not a sterile device and does not require sterilization. Do not immerse stethoscopes in liquids. They are not designed for machine-processed maintenance and sterilization, as this may cause irreparable damage.
  • Preventive Inspection/Maintenance/Calibration: The ri-sonic PCP-USB / ri-sonic PCP-1 Chest Piece does not require preventive inspection, routine maintenance, or calibration.
  • Troubleshooting (No stethoscope sounds from PC):
    • Test the local loop back through the PC Control Panel to check for a failed ri-sonic PCP-USB / ri-sonic PCP-1 Chest Piece.
    • Substitute the device with a replacement ri-sonic PCP-USB / ri-sonic PCP-1 Chest Piece to identify a failed unit.
  • Disposal: Batteries and electrical/electronic devices must be disposed of according to locally applicable regulations, not with domestic waste. Contact the manufacturer or representatives for disposal inquiries.
  • Warranty: A 2-year warranty from the date of purchase covers defects due to material or manufacturing faults. It does not cover improper handling or wearing parts. A valid warranty claim requires a completed and stamped warranty card from the dealer.
