5.5 Alternator Test (Normal and Smart 12V/24V alternators)
This test conrms if the alternator charging voltage is within the correct limits to avoid under or overcharging of the baery
1. Connect test leads with baery clamps to meter
2. Turn Selector Dial to Voltage Mode (V posion)
3. Select Alternator Mode
then press
buon to connue
4. Display will ash as below to show clamps need connecng to baery
5. Connect red clamp to baery posive(+) and black clamp to baery negave(-)
Note:
The tester will automacally detect whether it is a 12V or 24V vehicle based on the baery voltage detected aer clamping.
6. Select Normal or Smart alternator depending on type ed to vehicle then press
7. Three test will now be carried out to check the vehicle alternator:
5.5.1 Unloaded Voltage Test
1. Ensure all vehicle accessories are turned OFF
2. Hold engine revs between 2,500-3,000 then press
to start the test
3. Maintain engine revs unl countdown mer reaches zero
4. When mer reaches zero the results will automacally be displayed
5. Aer 3 seconds the display will automacally move to the next test:
12V Baery
OR
24V Baery
Turn Air condioning OFF
Hold accelerator for 10 seconds
Hold engine revs at
2,500 – 3,000 RPM
Rev engine to
2,500 - 3,000 RPM
Timer countdown
from 10s to 0s
