Section width
The linear distance between the exteriors of the sidewall
of an inflated tire. The distance excludes elevations from
labeling, decoration, or protective bands.
Sidewall The section of the tire between the tread and the bead.
Tire placard
The label that is permanently attached to the inside of the
door pillar that describes the original equipment tire sizes,
recommended inflation pressures, and loading capacity.
Tread The section of the tire that contacts the road surface.
Treadwear
indicators (TWI)
The projections within the tire grooves that are designed
to provide a visual indication of the tire tread wear.
Vehicle maximum
load on the tire
The load on an individual tire that is determined by
distributing the maximum loaded vehicle weight on each
axle and dividing by two.
