craft. Please read right through these operating instructions before attempting to use the controller for the
first time.

If you prefer to use a separate receiver battery instead of the BEC sy-
stem, you will need to withdraw the red wire from the connector housing
and insulate the bare contact to avoid a short-circuit.
Using your new speed controller for the first time
Please keep to this sequence when using the controller for the first time:
1. Pull the throttle stick right back to its “Idle” end-stop, then switch the transmitter on.
2. Connect the flight battery to the speed controller; the unit now initiates a self-test; the special beep se-
quence “* 123” sounds. This means that the voltage of the battery is in the normal range. After this you will
hear N beeps, indicating the number of cells in the Lithium battery. Next comes a long beep which means
that the self-test has been completed satisfactorily: the model aircraft is clear to fly.
3. VERY IMPORTANT: since the throttle signal range of different transmitters varies, we strongly recommend
that you start by using the “throttle range set-up function” in order to calibrate the throttle range. Please read
the appropriate paragraph in these instructions entitled “Setting the full-throttle and stop positions”.
Warning beeps
1. Input voltage not normal: as soon as the battery is connected, the controller checks the battery voltage. If
the voltage is not within the permissible range, the unit emits the following sequence of warning beeps:
“beep-beep, beep-beep, beep-beep”, with a pause of around one second between the pairs of beeps.
2. Throttle signal abnormal: if the throttle signal picked up by the controller is not in the normal range, the unit
emits the following sequence of warning beeps: “beep-beep-beep”, with a pause of around two seconds
between the sets of beeps.
3. Throttle stick not in the “fully back” position: if the throttle stick is not at the idle end-point, the unit emits a
very rapid sequence of beeps: “beep-beep-beep”, with a pause of only about a quarter of a second bet-
ween the sets of beeps.
Protective functions
1. Start-up protection: if the motor does not start within two seconds of the throttle command, the speed con-
troller switches the output voltage off. If this should happen, you MUST pull the throttle stick right back, ot-
herwise you will not be able to start the motor. The reason for the failure to start may be any of the following:
the connection between speed controller and motor is intermittent; the propeller or motor is blocked (pre-
vented from turning); the gearbox is damaged, etc.
2. Overheating protection: if the temperature of the controller rises above 110°C, the unit reduces the output
voltage.
3. Throttle signal failure protection: if the throttle signal is not present for a period of one second, the control-
ler reduces the output voltage. If it fails again for a period of two seconds, the controller switches the out-
put voltage off completely.
