- The four lower shrouds are secured using the four shroud
hooks 23.16 which have to be bent to shape. They must fit
round the 12 mm square section at the masthead.
Squeeze the sleeves 23.17 into an oval shape and fit them
on the shroud hooks as shown in the centre drawing in Fig.
228. Solder the parts together and fit them on the
masthead. Angle them down and bend the hook at the
edge of the frame.
- Make up the various hooks 23.18 - 23.21 and solder the
joints - Fig. 229.
- Solder the masthead rings 23.22, fit them on the topmast
mastheads 23.23 and 23.24 and drill them in a cruciform
pattern - Fig. 230. Solder the split pin 23.25 to the schoo-
ner topmast masthead and bend it into a hook shape. Cut
down five split pins 23.26 to a length of about 5 mm, insert
them in the appropriate holes and fix them in place with
epoxy. Open up the loop of the sixth split pin 23.26 to 2.5
mm I.D., then shorten the shank and glue it in the hole.
- Glue the plugs 23.27 in the mastheads. Drill a hole in part
23.23 as shown and fit the seventh split pin in the hole.
- Paint the prepared parts white, the formed wire parts black
and the masts dark brown.
- Fit the shroud hooks 23.16 on the masts.
- Drill out the blocks 23.28, fit them on the split pins 23.29
and solder them to the sleeves 23.30. Bend the rings down
at an angle of about 45° - Fig. 231.
- Glue the lower block assemblies in the rear of the
mastheads, finishing flush with the front face. Shorten the
upper sleeves 23.30 before installing them. Glue the last of
the split pins 23.29 in place. Attach the formed wire parts
now that they have been painted (note: the shroud hooks
23.16 are not shown) - Fig. 232.
- Drill the forward belaying ring 23.31 on the schooner mast
and insert the split pin 23.32 in it; do not splay the ends.
- Slide the belaying ring 23.33 onto the mainmast with the
flattened side facing aft. Fit the main boom support 23.34
in the same way and secure both parts using the split pins
23.32 - Fig. 233.
