- Make the mast ring soldering tool from a clothes peg as
shown in Fig. 276.
- Solder the mast rings 28.5 to the S-hooks 28.6. Bend the
S-hooks as shown and open them up slightly - Fig. 276.
- Paint the mast rings, connect them to the sails as shown
on plan 3 and close the S-hooks - Fig. 277.
- Tie the mainsail foot stretcher 28.7 to the rear lower thim-
ble of the mainsail - plan 3.
- Fix the lashings 28.8 to the remaining corner thimbles in
the mainsail and schooner sail.

- Fit the doubler strips, tablings and thimbles to the schoo-
ner sail 28.1 and mainsail 28.2 as described in Stage 27.
Mark the cloth sections on the sails.
- Cut the five sail battens 28.4 from hard PVC sheet
(approx. 95 x 95 mm), and drill the 1 mm Ø holes as shown
on the plan. Peel off the backing film and apply the battens
to the sails in the positions shown on the plan. Sew the
ends of the battens to the sails with thread to prevent them
coming loose.
- Burn the 1.2 mm Ø holes for the mast rings and lacings.

- Fit the doubler strips, tablings and thimbles to the topsail
29.1 and Fisherman sail 29.2 as described in Stage 27.
Mark the cloth sections on the sails as shown.
- Assemble six mast rings by soldering parts 29.4 and 29.5
together, and attach them to the topsail.
