If these steps don't work, remove the spark plug, connect it to the plug cap, and pull the starter handle while grounding the plug against the engine body. If the spark is weak or nonexistent, try a new spark plug. If there's still no spark with a new plug, the ignition system may be faulty. Also, if the oil level is too low, raise it to the prescribed limit.

Also, do not hold the spark plug by hand while pulling the recoil starter.
