This document describes the Rowenta Perfect Steam generator iron, designed for domestic use. It is an electrical appliance that operates under normal conditions of use and is equipped with two safety systems: a pressure release valve to prevent excessive pressure (releasing excess steam in case of malfunction) and a thermal fuse to prevent overheating.
Function Description
The Rowenta Perfect Steam generator iron is designed to provide efficient steam ironing. It features a removable 1.4L water tank, allowing for extended ironing sessions without frequent refills. The appliance heats water in a boiler to produce steam, which is then delivered through the iron's soleplate. The iron has a temperature control dial to adjust the soleplate temperature according to the fabric type, and a steam trigger for on-demand steam. An ECO mode is available to reduce energy consumption while maintaining sufficient steam output. The appliance also includes a "Calc-Away System" scale collector (or boiler rinse cap, depending on the model) to manage limescale buildup and prolong the life of the steam generator.

Usage Features
-
Preparation:
- Safety Lock: The steam generator is equipped with a safety lock (item 6) that holds the iron onto the base unit (item 4) for easy transport and storage. To lock, place the iron on the iron rest (item 11) and push down the safety lock until it clicks (fig. 1). To unlock, pull up the safety lock (fig. 2). The appliance can then be carried by the iron handle (fig. 3).
- Water Type: Use untreated tap water. If tap water is very hard, mix 50% tap water with 50% distilled water. In coastal regions with high salt content, use only distilled water. Avoid rainwater, scented water, or water from other household appliances, as these can affect steam properties and cause deposits.
- Filling the Water Tank: Remove the 1.4L removable water tank (item 7) by its handle (fig. 4). Fill it with water up to the maximum level (fig. 5). Slide the tank back into its housing until it clicks into place.
- Setup: Place the steam generator on a flat, stable, heat- and water-resistant surface. Unwind the electrical power cord completely and remove the steam cord (item 13) from its housing (item 14) (fig. 6). Plug the appliance into an earthed mains socket (fig. 7).
-
Operation:
- Switching On: Press the on/off switch (item 17) (fig. 8). The green steam ready light (item 16a) on the control panel will flash, indicating the boiler is heating up. The electric pump will inject water into the boiler, making a normal noise. The appliance is ready when the steam ready light is continuous and the iron temperature control light (item 12) goes out (fig. 10).
- Temperature Setting: Adjust the iron's temperature control dial (item 3) according to the fabric type (fig. 9). The iron temperature control light will turn on and off as needed for heating.
- Steam Ironing: Press the steam trigger (item 2) beneath the iron handle (fig. 11) to produce steam. Steam stops when the trigger is released. For first-time use or after a few minutes of non-use, press the steam trigger several times away from clothes to prime the steam circuit.
- ECO Mode: Press the ECO button (item 16b) on the control panel to activate ECO mode, which saves energy while providing effective steam. For very thick or creased fabrics, deactivate ECO mode by pressing the button again for optimal results.
- Vertical Steaming: Set the iron's temperature to max. Hang the garment on a hanger and hold the fabric taut. Press the steam trigger repeatedly while moving the iron from top to bottom (fig. 12).
- Dry Ironing: Do not press the steam trigger.
- Refilling During Use: If the "water tank empty" light (item 16e) flashes (fig. 13), the tank is empty. Remove the tank (fig. 14), refill it to the max level (fig. 5), and reinsert it. Press the Restart button (item 16c) on the control panel to turn off the red light.
-
Storage:
- Turn off the appliance and unplug it. Place the iron on its rest. Lock the iron onto the base unit using the safety lock (fig. 1). Fold the steam cord and place it in its housing. Wind up the power cord and secure it with the Velcro strap (item 10). Allow the steam generator to cool for at least one hour before storing.
Maintenance Features
-
Cleaning:
- Soleplate: Clean the cool soleplate with a damp cloth or non-abrasive sponge.
- Base Unit: Clean plastic parts occasionally with a soft cloth.
- Never immerse the iron or base unit in water or use descaling products on the soleplate or base unit.
-
Descaling (Calc-Away System models):
- The orange "Calc-Away System" indicator (item 16d) will flash (fig. 15) when the scale collector needs rinsing.
- Important: This operation must only be performed when the steam generator has been unplugged for at least two hours and is completely cool. Perform near a sink as water may spill.
- Remove the scale collector cover (item 9) (fig. 16). Unscrew the scale collector (item 15) completely and remove it (fig. 17). Rinse the collector under running water to remove scale (fig. 18). Reinsert the collector and screw it in tightly (fig. 19). Replace the scale collector cover (fig. 20).
- The next time you use the iron, press the "Restart" button to turn off the orange "Calc-Away System" light.
- For optimal maintenance, rinse the boiler completely every 6 months or after every 25 uses. Ensure the appliance is cool and unplugged for at least 2 hours. Place it on the edge of a sink, fill the boiler with 1/4 liter of tap water using a jug (fig. 24), shake it (fig. 25), and empty it into the sink (fig. 26). Repeat this process twice for best results. Screw the boiler rinse cap back on tightly with a coin (fig. 27) and replace the cover (fig. 28).
-
Descaling (Models without Calc-Away System):
- The orange "Boiler rinse" indicator (item 16d) will flash (fig. 21) when the boiler needs rinsing. You can continue ironing, but rinse the boiler before the next use.
- Important: This operation must only be performed when the steam generator has been unplugged for at least two hours and is completely cool. Perform near a sink as water may spill.
- Place the steam generator on the edge of a sink. Unscrew the boiler rinse cap cover a quarter turn to the left (fig. 22). Gently unscrew the boiler rinse cap with a coin (fig. 23). Hold the steam generator at an angle and fill the boiler with 1/4 liter of tap water using a jug (fig. 24). Shake the base unit for a few seconds (fig. 25) and empty it completely into the sink (fig. 26). Repeat this process twice for best results. Screw the boiler rinse cap back on tightly with a coin (fig. 27) and replace the cover (fig. 28).
- The next time you use the iron, press the "Restart" button to turn off the orange light.
Regular descaling helps maintain optimal steam performance over time.
