Overview

This document is an operational manual for the ROYAL 100x crosscut shredder.

Function Description

The ROYAL 100x crosscut shredder is designed to shred paper and other small materials like envelopes, credit cards, and receipts into small cross-cut pieces for security and disposal. It features an automatic motor overload protection circuit to prevent damage from continuous operation or exceeding its shredding capacity. The shredder has a slide switch with "auto," "rev," and "off" positions, and a "ready" LED indicator to show its operational status.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Shred Type: Cross-Cut
  • Shred Width: 5/32" x 1 5/8"
  • Shredding Capacity: 10 Sheets of 20-lb. bond paper
  • Feed Opening: 8 3/4"
  • Weight: 14.6 lbs.
  • Input: 115 volt AC, 3 amp.
  • Continuous Shredding Limit: Up to 10 minutes at maximum sheet capacity. A 20-minute cool-down period is recommended after 10 minutes of continuous use to allow the motor to cool.
  • Shreddable Materials: Paper, credit cards, small paper clips, and staples.
  • Non-Shreddable Materials: Materials other than paper, credit cards, and CDs (though the manual only mentions paper and credit cards as shreddable, it explicitly states not to shred materials other than paper, credit cards, and CDs in the provided feed slots, implying these are the only supported items).

Usage Features

  • Setup:
    1. Place the shredder on a flat, level surface.
    2. Securely place the shredder head on top of the wastebasket, ensuring it fits flush.
    3. Plug the power cord into a standard 115-volt AC outlet.
    4. Set the slide switch to the "auto" position. The "ready" LED will illuminate, indicating the shredder is ready for use.
  • Operation:
    • In "auto" mode, the shredder starts automatically when paper is inserted into the feed opening and stops once the paper has completely passed through.
    • The "rev" (reverse) position is used to clear paper jams by reversing the shredding process. When switching from "auto" to "rev," it's important to momentarily stop to prevent motor damage.
    • The "off" position terminates AC power to the shredder and is recommended when the shredder is not in use for extended periods.
    • The "ready" LED indicates correct wastebasket insertion and power status. If it's not lit, check the plug, wastebasket, and slide switch position.
  • Shredding Small Materials: When shredding small items like envelopes, credit cards, or receipts, insert them in the middle of the feed opening.
  • Jam Clearing:
    • Minor Paper Jam: Switch to "rev" position, pull out remaining paper, and clear any excess shreds. Keep fingers and personal effects away from the cutters.
    • Major Paper Jam (Motor Overload): Turn off or unplug the shredder and wait at least 20 minutes for the thermal overload protection to reset. Plug in, set to "auto," then if paper is still in the feed opening, switch to "rev" to pull it out. Clear any excess shreds.

Maintenance Features

  • Safety Precautions (Warnings):
    • Keep out of reach of children.
    • Do not place fingers, jewelry, hair, or loose clothing near the feed slot.
    • Always turn off and unplug the shredder when not in use, or when moving, cleaning, or emptying the waste receptacle.
    • Do not attempt to feed more sheets than specified.
    • Do not attempt to shred unsupported materials.
    • Remove paper clips, staples, and other fasteners before shredding (though the manual later states it will cut staples and small paper clips, recommending discretion).
    • Limit continuous shredding to the specified time.
    • Empty the waste receptacle before it becomes full.
    • Do not operate if the shredder is experiencing problems.
    • Do not use flammable synthetic oil, petroleum-based, or aerosol products on the shredder.
    • Do not attempt to repair the shredder yourself.
  • General Cautions:
    • Keep loose articles of clothing, ties, jewelry, hair, or other small items away from the feed opening.
    • Turn off or unplug the shredder when not in use for prolonged periods.
    • While the shredder can cut staples, small paper clips, and credit cards, proper discretion is recommended.
  • Wastebasket: Empty frequently to prevent it from becoming full.
