Do you have a question about the RTK RE 3442 Series and is the answer not in the manual?
The RE 3442 is a positioner designed for the precise control of electrical actuators equipped with stroke feedback potentiometers. It functions as a transducer, converting the valve position feedback signal into a continuous output signal (typically 4-20 mA), and incorporates a comparator with a relay output and input (also typically 4-20 mA). This allows the device to compare the input signal from an external master controller with the output signal from the stroke transducer, subsequently controlling the actuator to ensure both signals are equal. While the standard configuration uses a 4-20 mA control signal, the RE 3442 can also be supplied for control signal ranges of 0-20 mA or 0-10 V DC, offering flexibility for various control systems. It's important to note that the input and output signals are not galvanically isolated.
The core function of the RE 3442 is to maintain a desired valve position by continuously comparing the actual valve position (sensed by the potentiometer) with the setpoint provided by an external controller. When a discrepancy is detected, the positioner sends control signals to the actuator's motor to adjust the valve position until the actual position matches the setpoint. This closed-loop control ensures accurate and stable positioning of the valve. The device is compatible with specific electrical actuators, including ST 5112, ST 5113 with AC motor, and ST 5114 with AC motor (with a special circuit configuration for ST 5114).
