SAFETY RULES
For best results, your battery should be charged in a
location where the temperature is more than 50°F but
less than 100°F. Do not store outside or in vehicles.
Under extreme usage or temperature conditions,
battery leakage may occur. If liquid comes in contact
with your skin, wash immediately with soap and water,
then neutralize with lemon juice or vinegar. If liquid
gets into your eyes, flush them with clean water for
at least 10 minutes, then seek immediate medical at-
tention. Following this rule will reduce the risk of serious
personal injury.
If the power supply cord is damaged, it must be re-
placed only by the manufacturer or by an authorized
service center to avoid risk.
Save these instructions. Refer to them frequently
and use them to instruct others who may use this
tool. If you loan someone this tool, loan them these
instructions also to prevent misuse of the product and
possible injury.
WARNING!
READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL INSTRUCTIONS. Fail-
ure to follow all instructions listed below, may result in
electric shock, fire and/or serious personal injury.
When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from
other metal objects like: paper clips, coins, keys,
nails, screws, or other small metal objects that can
make a connection from one terminal to another.
Shorting the battery terminals together may cause sparks,
burns, or a fire.
Do not place battery tools or their batteries near fire or heat.
This will reduce the risk of explosion and possibly injury.
Never use a battery that has been dropped or
received a sharp blow. A damaged battery is subject to
explosion. Properly dispose of a dropped or damaged
battery immediately.
Batteries vent hydrogen gas and can explode in the
presence of a source of ignition, such as a pilot light.
To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, never use
any cordless product in the presence of open flame. An
exploded battery can propel debris and chemicals. If
exposed, flush with water immediately.
Do not charge battery in a damp or wet location. Fol-
lowing this rule will reduce the risk of electric shock.

are charged. Allow several cycles (operation followed by
recharging) for them to become fully charged.
CHARGING A COOL BATTERY PACK
If battery pack is within normal temperature range, the red
LED on charger will come on.
NOTE: If the charger does not charge the battery pack
under normal circumstances, return both the battery pack
and charger to your nearest Ryobi Authorized Service Center
for electrical check.
Charge the battery pack only with a recommended
charger.
Make sure the power supply is normal household
voltage, 120 volts, 60 Hz, AC only.
Connect the charger to the power supply.
Place the battery pack in the charger aligning raised rib
on the battery pack with the groove in the charger. See
Figure 1.
Press down on the battery pack to be sure contacts on
the battery pack engage properly with contacts in the
charger.
Normally the red LED on charger will come on. This
indicates the charger is in fast charging mode.

Overview

The Ryobi 18 Volt Battery Pack (P100) is a rechargeable nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) battery designed for use with Ryobi Cordless products. It requires a 1-hour charging time to be fully charged and is sold separately from its recommended chargers (P110, 1423701, 140237021, 140237023, or P130).

Function Description:

This battery pack provides portable power to Ryobi cordless tools. It is designed to be charged by compatible Ryobi chargers, storing electrical energy that can then be used to operate various tools. The Ni-Cd chemistry offers reliable performance, though like all batteries, it will eventually wear out.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Battery Type: Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cd)
  • Voltage: 18 Volts
  • Charging Time: Approximately 1 hour for a full charge.
  • Recommended Charging Temperature: More than 50°F (10°C) but less than 100°F (38°C).
  • Charger Compatibility: P110, 1423701, 140237021, 140237023, or P130.
  • Power Supply for Charger: Normal household voltage, 120 volts, 60 Hz, AC only.

Usage Features:

  • Initial Charging: Battery packs are shipped in a low charge condition. They will not reach full charge the first time they are charged; several cycles of operation followed by recharging are needed for them to become fully charged.
  • Charging Process:
    • Connect the charger to a 120V, 60Hz AC power supply.
    • Align the raised rib on the battery pack with the groove in the charger and press down to ensure proper contact.
    • Normally, the red LED on the charger will illuminate, indicating fast charging mode.
    • The red LED should remain on for approximately 1 hour, then the green LED will illuminate, indicating a fully charged battery pack and that the charger is in maintenance charge mode.
    • The green LED will remain on until the battery pack is removed or the charger is disconnected.
  • Charging a Cool Battery Pack: If the battery pack is within the normal temperature range (50°F to 100°F), the red LED on the charger will come on during charging.
  • Charging a Hot Battery Pack: If the battery pack becomes hot from continuous tool use, it should be allowed to cool down for approximately 30 minutes before attempting to recharge. If a hot, discharged battery is inserted, the green LED may come on instead of the red LED. After cooling, reinsert the pack. If the green LED persists, the battery pack may need servicing.
  • Deeply Discharged/Defective Battery Pack: If both yellow and green LEDs come on, it indicates a deeply discharged or defective battery pack. Allow 15-30 minutes in the charger; if the red LED doesn't come on, the battery pack may be defective and require replacement.
  • Battery Warmth During Charging: It is normal for the battery pack to become slightly warm to the touch while charging.
  • Storage:
    • For storage longer than 30 days, store the battery pack where the temperature is below 80°F (27°C).
    • Store battery packs in a "discharged" condition for optimal battery life.
    • Do not store outside or in vehicles.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Always use the battery pack for Ryobi Cordless products only.
    • Do not short the battery terminals with metal objects (paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, etc.) as this can cause sparks, burns, or fire.
    • Do not place battery tools or batteries near fire or heat to prevent explosion and injury.
    • Never use a battery that has been dropped or received a sharp blow, as damaged batteries are prone to explosion. Dispose of damaged batteries immediately.
    • Batteries vent hydrogen gas and can explode if exposed to an ignition source. Never use cordless products near open flames. If exposed to chemicals from an exploded battery, flush with water immediately.
    • Do not charge batteries in damp or wet locations to prevent electric shock.
    • Under extreme usage or temperature conditions, battery leakage may occur. If liquid contacts skin, wash with soap and water, then neutralize with lemon juice or vinegar. If liquid gets into eyes, flush with clean water for at least 10 minutes and seek immediate medical attention.
    • If the power supply cord of the charger is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or an authorized service center.
    • Save all instructions for frequent reference and to instruct others.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Life: The batteries are designed for maximum trouble-free life but will eventually wear out.
  • Disassembly: Do not disassemble the battery pack or attempt to replace the batteries.
  • Recycling: This product contains nickel-cadmium batteries, which should be recycled or disposed of properly to preserve natural resources. Local, state, or federal laws may prohibit disposal of Ni-Cd batteries in ordinary trash. Consult local waste authority for recycling and disposal options.
  • Post-Removal Handling for Recycling: Upon removal, cover the battery pack's terminals with heavy-duty adhesive tape. Do not attempt to destroy or disassemble the battery pack or remove any of its components. Never touch both terminals with metal objects and/or body parts, as a short circuit can occur, leading to fire and/or serious injury. Keep away from children.
  • Troubleshooting Charging Issues: If the charger does not charge the battery pack under normal circumstances, return both the battery pack and charger to your nearest Ryobi Authorized Service Center for an electrical check.
