Do you have a question about the Ryobi PCL704K and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The RYOBI 18 Volt Hand Vac, model PCL704, is a cordless handheld vacuum cleaner designed for quick clean-ups and general household use. It is powered by an 18V lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery, which provides portability and convenience without the need for an electrical outlet during operation. The device is intended for dry vacuuming only and should not be used for wet substances or liquids.

Function Description

The RYOBI 18 Volt Hand Vac is designed to efficiently pick up dry debris, dust, and small particles from various surfaces. Its compact and lightweight design makes it ideal for cleaning car interiors, furniture, stairs, and other hard-to-reach areas. The vacuum operates by drawing air and debris through its nozzle into a dust bowl, where a filter separates the collected material from the airflow. The filtered air is then expelled from the device.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Power Source: 18V Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery (not included with all models).
  • Voltage: 18 Volts.
  • Current Type: Direct Current.
  • No-Load Speed: Rotational speed, at no load.
  • Per Minute: Revolutions, strokes, surface speed, orbits, etc., per minute.
  • Usage: Intended for household use and dry vacuuming only.
  • Accessories: The vacuum is compatible with various accessories, including a crevice tool and a dust brush, to enhance its versatility for different cleaning tasks. These accessories are designed to be easily attached and removed from the vacuum's nozzle.

Usage Features

The RYOBI 18 Volt Hand Vac is designed for ease of use and convenience.

  • Starting/Stopping the Vacuum: To start the vacuum, depress the ON/OFF switch. To stop the vacuum, depress the ON/OFF switch to turn the vacuum off.
  • Installing Accessories: Accessories like the crevice tool and dust brush can be easily installed by inserting them into the opening in the dust bowl. For 1-7/16 in. accessories, insert the adaptor into the opening and slide the accessory onto the adaptor.
  • Removing/Reattaching the Dust Bowl: The dust bowl can be removed by depressing the release button located on top of the hand vac and pulling the dust bowl down and out. To reattach, align the slot on the bottom of the dust bowl with the tab on the bottom of the motor housing, then snap the two sections together.
  • Battery Installation: The 18V battery pack slides into the battery port until it latches securely in place. To remove the battery, depress the release button on the battery pack and pull it out.
  • Filter Maintenance: The filter is an essential component for effective vacuuming and needs regular cleaning. It can be removed by twisting it counterclockwise and pulling it from the filter housing. To reassemble, insert the filter into the filter housing and turn clockwise to lock into place.
  • Cleaning the Dust Bowl: The dust bowl should be checked, emptied, and cleaned periodically for maximum dust collection.
  • Charging: The battery pack should be charged using a compatible RYOBI 18V charger. It is recommended to fully charge the battery before first use and after each use to maintain optimal performance and battery life.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of the RYOBI 18 Volt Hand Vac.

  • General Maintenance: Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of commercial solvents and may be damaged by their use. Use clean cloths to remove dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc.
  • Cleaning/Replacing the Filter: The filter should be cleaned regularly to maintain suction power. Remove the filter from the dust bowl, shake or lightly brush any dust off the filter housing. If necessary, wash the filter with mild soap and water, ensuring it is completely dry before reattaching to the hand vac. Replace the filter if it becomes damaged or excessively dirty.
  • Dust Bowl Cleaning: Empty the dust bowl frequently, especially after each use, to prevent loss of suction and maintain hygiene. The dust bowl can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
  • Storage: Store the hand vac in a clean, dry place, away from direct sunlight, heat, or moisture. If storing for extended periods, ensure the battery is fully charged and stored separately if recommended by the battery manufacturer.
  • Troubleshooting: If the vacuum experiences a loss of suction, check the dust bowl for fullness, the filter for cleanliness, and the nozzle for any blockages. Ensure the battery is adequately charged.
  • Product Care: Do not immerse the vacuum in water or other liquids. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners on the device. Regularly inspect the vacuum for any signs of damage or wear, such as cracks in the housing or frayed wires. If any damage is found, discontinue use and contact customer service for repair or replacement.
  • Battery Care: Always use the correct charger for the 18V battery. Do not attempt to modify the battery or charger. Store batteries in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposing batteries to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight.
  • Disposal: When the product reaches the end of its life, it should be disposed of responsibly. Lithium-ion batteries should be recycled according to local, state, or federal laws. Consult local authorities for information regarding available recycling and/or disposal options.

Safety Information

Always read and understand all instructions before using the appliance to prevent electric shock, fire, and/or serious personal injury. This device is for dry vacuuming only. Do not use to clean up liquids. Do not use without dust bowl and filter in place. Do not incinerate the battery pack even if it is severely damaged. The batteries can explode in a fire. This product does not have to be plugged into an electrical outlet; therefore, it is always in operating condition. Be aware of possible hazards when using the product or when changing accessories. Remove the battery when the vacuum is not in use and before servicing. Use this product only with batteries and chargers listed in tool/appliance/battery pack/charger correlation supplement 987000-432. Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack. Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire. When the battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects like: paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal objects that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause sparks, burns, or a fire. Always remove the battery pack from your tool when you are assembling parts, making adjustments, cleaning, or when not in use. Removing the battery pack will prevent accidental starting that could cause serious personal injury. Do not use a battery pack or power tool that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behavior resulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury. Do not modify or attempt to repair a power tool or battery pack that has been damaged. To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, never use or expose a battery pack or any cordless product in the presence of an open flame or temperature above 265°F. An exploded battery can propel debris and chemicals. If exposed, flush with water immediately. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to a power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the product. Carrying battery products with your finger on the switch or energizing battery products that have the switch on invites accidents.
