  If your Ryobi Edger's engine won't start, several factors could be at play. There might be no spark, possibly due to a dirty spark plug. Try cleaning or replacing the spark plug and resetting the spark plug gap. Also, ensure the engine isn't flooded. Push the primer bulb until it's full of fuel. If it doesn't fill, the primary fuel delivery system might be blocked, so you should contact a service dealer. If the primer bulb fills, the engine may be flooded. Set the start lever to the START position, squeeze the trigger, and repeatedly pull the rope until the engine starts and runs. Note that depending on how flooded the engine is, it may require numerous pulls.

  If your Ryobi Edger engine doesn't reach full speed and emits excessive smoke, the air filter might be dirty. Clean the air filter. Also, the spark arrestor screen might be dirty (in this case you need to contact a servicing dealer) or the spark plug may be fouled. Try cleaning or replacing the spark plug and resetting the spark plug gap.

  If you can't pull the engine rope on your Ryobi Edger, oil may have entered the combustion chamber. This often happens when the unit is stored upside down for a long time. Remove and clean the spark plug. Drain the oil out of the spark plug hole, then reinstall the spark plug.
