What to do if my Ryobi RY25CSEMC engine will not start?
    • G
      Gordon RamosAug 20, 2025
If your Ryobi Trimmer engine won't start, there could be several reasons. It might be due to no spark, no fuel, or the engine being flooded. If there is no spark or fuel, clean or replace the spark plug and reset the spark plug gap. Push the primer bulb until it is full of fuel. If the primer bulb fills, but the engine is flooded, set the choke lever to the FULL CHOKE position. Squeeze the trigger and pull the starter grip and rope repeatedly until the engine starts and runs. Depending on how flooded the engine is, this may require numerous pulls of the rope.

      Marc ReevesAug 22, 2025
If your Ryobi Trimmer engine doesn't reach full speed and emits excessive smoke: * **Incorrect lubricant/fuel mixture:** Ensure you are using fresh fuel and the correct 2-cycle lubricant mix (50:1). * **Air filter screen is dirty:** Clean the air filter screen. * **Spark plug fouled:** Clean or replace the spark plug and reset the spark plug gap.

      Amber CaldwellAug 26, 2025
If the line on your Ryobi Trimmer won't advance, consider the following: * **Line is welded to itself:** Lubricate the line with silicone spray. * **Not enough line on spool:** Install more line. * **Line is tangled on spool:** Pull the lines while alternately pressing down on and releasing the spool retainer. Remove the line from the spool and rewind it. * **Engine speed is too slow:** Advance the line at full throttle.

    • A
      alicia46Aug 27, 2025
If your Ryobi Trimmer starts, runs, and accelerates but will not idle, the idle speed screw on the carburetor likely needs adjustment. Turn the idle speed screw clockwise to increase the idle speed.

Why does my Ryobi Trimmer engine not reach full speed and emit excessive smoke?
    • A
      Angela Wilson MDAug 30, 2025
If your Ryobi Trimmer engine doesn't reach full speed and emits excessive smoke, it could be due to several factors. You might have an incorrect lubricant/fuel mixture, so ensure you are using fresh fuel and the correct 2-cycle lubricant mix (50:1). Another cause could be a dirty air filter screen, which you should clean. The spark plug could also be fouled, so clean or replace it and reset the spark plug gap.

What to do if the line will not advance on my Ryobi RY25CSEMC Trimmer?
    • S
      Susan HawkinsSep 2, 2025
If the line on your Ryobi Trimmer will not advance, it could be because the line is welded to itself, in which case you should lubricate the line with silicone spray. It may also be that there is not enough line on the spool, so install more line. If the line is worn too short, pull the lines while alternately pressing down on and releasing the spool retainer. Also, make sure that the engine speed is sufficient; advance the line at full throttle.

If grass wraps around the drive shaft housing and string head of your Ryobi Trimmer, it could be because you are cutting tall grass at ground level. To prevent this, cut tall grass from the top down. Also, ensure you are operating the trimmer at full throttle, not part throttle.
