What to do if my Ryobi RY34005 engine will not start?
    • R
      Robin GomezAug 13, 2025
If your Ryobi Power Tool engine won't start, it could be due to no spark, no fuel, or a flooded engine. Try cleaning or replacing the spark plug and resetting the spark plug gap. Push the primer bulb until it's full of fuel. If it doesn't fill, the primary fuel delivery system might be blocked, so contact a service dealer. If the primer bulb fills, the engine may be flooded. Set the choke lever to the FULL CHOKE position, squeeze the trigger, and pull the rope repeatedly until the engine starts. Note that depending on how flooded the engine is, it might require numerous pulls.

Why does my Ryobi Power Tool engine not reach full speed and emits excessive smoke?
    • L
      Lisa DunnAug 17, 2025
If your Ryobi Power Tool engine doesn't reach full speed and emits excessive smoke, it could be due to a dirty air filter screen, a dirty spark arrestor screen, or a fouled spark plug. Try cleaning the air filter screen. Clean or replace the spark plug and reset the spark plug gap. For the spark arrestor screen you should contact a servicing dealer.

What to do if grass wraps around the driveshaft housing and string head of my Ryobi RY34005?
    • J
      Jacqueline FletcherAug 20, 2025
If grass wraps around the driveshaft housing and string head of your Ryobi Power Tool, it's likely because you're cutting tall grass at ground level or operating the trimmer at part throttle. Cut tall grass from the top down to prevent wrapping, and operate the trimmer at full throttle.

What to do if the line will not advance on my Ryobi RY34005?
    • C
      christinarichardsAug 25, 2025
If the line on your Ryobi Power Tool will not advance, it could be due to several reasons: the line is welded to itself, there's not enough line on the spool, the line is worn too short, the line is tangled, or the engine speed is too slow. Replace the line or install more line. You can also try pulling the lines while alternately pressing down on and releasing the spool retainer. If the line is tangled, remove it from the spool and rewind it. Make sure to advance the line at full throttle.

    • M
      Matthew LopezAug 27, 2025
If your Ryobi Power Tool engine emits too much smoke, it is likely due to having too much oil in the crankcase. Drain the lubricant and refill with the correct amount of 20W50 engine lubricant.

How to fix Ryobi Power Tool engine that starts, runs, and accelerates but will not idle?
    • R
      Ryan GraySep 1, 2025
If your Ryobi Power Tool engine starts, runs, and accelerates but will not idle, the idle speed screw on the carburetor likely needs adjustment. Turn the idle speed screw clockwise to increase the idle speed.

Why can't I pull the engine rope on my Ryobi RY34005 Power Tool?
    • A
      amandazunigaSep 4, 2025
If you can't pull the engine rope on your Ryobi Power Tool, it's likely because oil has entered the combustion chamber, usually caused by storing the unit upside down for an extended time. Remove and clean the spark plug. Drain the oil out of the spark plug hole, then reinstall the spark plug. Check the engine lubricant and add if necessary before starting.

What to do if the spool retainer is hard to turn on my Ryobi Power Tool?
    • J
      Jennifer MarshallSep 8, 2025
If the spool retainer is hard to turn on your Ryobi Power Tool, the screw threads are likely dirty or damaged. Clean the threads and lubricate them with grease. If there's no improvement, replace the spool retainer.
