Overview

The RYOBI Cordless Mulching Lawnmower, model RY36LMMX51A, is designed for outdoor use, specifically for domestic lawn mowing. It operates with a cutting blade that rotates approximately parallel to the ground, ensuring all four wheels remain in contact with the surface during mowing. This is a pedestrian-controlled walk-behind lawnmower, intended to be pushed by hand. It should not be used with its wheels off the ground, pulled, ridden on, or for cutting anything other than domestic grass lawns.

Function Description:

The lawnmower is equipped with a mulching function, which means it cuts grass into fine clippings that are then returned to the lawn as natural fertilizer. It features an overload and overheat protection system. If an overload is detected, the product automatically turns off, requiring the on/off lever to be released and squeezed again to restart. The battery pack also has overheat protection, stopping power to the tool if temperatures become excessive. A telescopic handle allows for adjustment for both storage and operation, but the product will only function if the handle is fully extended and its two latches are in the correct position.

Usage Features:

  • Personal Safety: Users must wear heavy, long trousers, long sleeves, sturdy anti-slip footwear, and safety glasses with side shields. Short trousers, sandals, or bare feet are not permitted. Loose-fitting clothing or clothing with hanging cords/ties should be avoided. Maintain firm footing and balance, especially on slopes, and always walk, never run.
  • Work Area Safety: The product should never be used if people, especially children or pets, are within 15 meters due to the risk of thrown objects. The area should be thoroughly inspected for rocks, sticks, metal, wire, bones, toys, or other foreign objects before operation. Operate the product only in daylight or with good artificial light. Avoid wet grass, rain, explosive atmospheres, and lightning risks.
  • Battery Tool Use and Care: The product operates with specific battery packs and chargers. Always follow the safety instructions provided with the battery and charger. The isolator key must be removed when the product is not in use or before any adjustments, cleaning, or material removal. Do not open or mutilate the battery pack, protect it from moisture and water, and do not incinerate it.
  • General Mowing Tips: The battery run time depends on grass condition, length, and density. Adjust the cutting height to suit the current lawn condition. For best performance, cut off one-third or less of the total grass height. Reduce walking speed when cutting long grass for more effective cutting and proper clipping discharge. Avoid cutting wet grass. New or thick grass may require a higher cutting height. The product is most effective when moving forwards. A higher cutting height extends battery run time.
  • Slopes: Do not operate on inclines greater than 15°. Mow across the face of slopes, never up and down. Exercise extreme caution when changing direction on slopes. Avoid drop-offs, ditches, excessively steep slopes, or embankments.
  • Starting and Stopping: The product must be started with the user behind the handlebars in the operator safety zone. Never start if not all four wheels are on the ground or if hands/feet are not clear of the cutting enclosure. Do not force the product; it performs better and safer at its designed speed. Stop the blade when crossing gravel surfaces. Do not pull the product backward unless absolutely necessary. Turn off the motor and allow the blade to stop if the product needs to be tilted for transport or moved to/from the work area.
  • Obstructions: Never use the product with defective guards, shields, or without safety devices. Do not tilt the product when starting or running the motor. If necessary, raise the front by no more than 5 cm for easier starting, pressing down on the handlebar. Always return to the normal position with all wheels on the ground before cutting.
  • Vibration and Noise Reduction: Prolonged use may cause or aggravate injuries. Take regular breaks. Keep your body warm in cold weather, wearing gloves to keep hands and wrists warm. Exercise after each period of operation to increase blood circulation. If symptoms of Raynaud’s Syndrome occur, discontinue use and consult a physician.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Maintenance: Use only original manufacturer’s replacement parts, accessories, and attachments. Servicing requires extreme care and knowledge and should be performed only by a qualified service technician at an authorized service center.
  • Before Maintenance: Turn off the product, remove the isolator key and battery pack, and ensure all moving parts have come to a complete stop before any cleaning or maintenance task.
  • Parts Replacement: Replace worn or damaged parts for safety. Replace worn or damaged blades and bolts in sets to preserve balance. Blade bolts must be adequately tightened according to manufacturer recommendations (35-40 Nm).
  • Cleaning: After each use, clean the product with a soft, dry cloth. Any damaged part should be properly repaired or replaced by an authorized service center.
  • Inspections: Check all nuts, bolts, and screws at frequent intervals for proper tightness to ensure safe working condition. Visually inspect blades, blade bolts, and cutter assembly before each use for wear or damage.
  • Blade Handling: The blade is sharp. Use extreme caution and wear heavy-duty gloves when fitting, replacing, cleaning, or checking bolt security. Be aware that blades can still move even if the power source is turned off.
  • Clearing Blockages: Turn off the product, remove the isolator key and battery pack, and ensure all moving parts have stopped. Always wear heavy-duty gloves when checking or clearing blockages. Check and carefully clear the grass discharge chute and the area around the blade. The blade may move during cleaning.
  • Labels: Bring the product to an authorized service center to replace damaged or unreadable labels.

Transportation and Storage:

  • Preparation: Turn off the product, remove the isolator key and battery pack. Ensure all moving parts have stopped. Allow the product to cool down before storing or transporting.
  • Cleaning: Clean all foreign materials from the product.
  • Storage Location: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place inaccessible to children. Keep away from corrosive agents (garden chemicals, de-icing salts). Do not store outdoors.
  • Vehicle Transport: For transportation in vehicles, remove the isolator key and secure the product against movement or falling to prevent injury or damage.
  • Lithium Batteries: Transport batteries in accordance with local and national provisions and regulations. Follow special requirements on packaging and labeling when transporting by a third party. Protect exposed connectors with insulating, non-conductive caps or tape. Do not transport cracked or leaking batteries.
