ALTERNATOR
The
alternator
is
located
at
the
top
of
the engine
near
the
firewall.
It
is
driven by a V-bel! from a
pulley on
the
crankshaft.
I! is
important
that
the
V-belt be properly tensioned_ If the belt
is
too
slack,
It can be
tightened
by
loosening
the lock-
nut
at the
alternator
body and
drawing
the al-
ternator
outward
by
turning
the
adjuster
nut
clockwlse_
The
belt
will
be
sufficiently
tightened when heavy
finger
pressure, appli
ed
midway
between pulleys,
will
deflect
the belt

WINDS
HIELD WIPERS
Inspect
and clean the rubber blades
of
the wind-
shield at
regular
intervals. Methyl
Alcohol
is
recommended
for
cleaning.
If the blades
show
signs
of
wear, they
should
be replaced. 400 mm.
(16
in.) blades are
specified.
Changing the Windshield Wiper Blades
Lift
the wiper arm. Depress the
plastic
clip
(1)
and
remove the
complete
wiper blade
(2)
(see illustra-
tion).
Free
the
rubber from the retainer (see
illustra-
tion) by pressing
together
the
two
shiny metal
pieces and
twisting
the rubber. The rubber can
now
be
withdrawn
through
the
other
retainers.
To
fit
the rubber,
slide
it
through
the
four
re-
tainers
and then
tighten
it
so
that
the
retainer at
one end engages the recess in the blade rubber.
Washers
The reservoir
holds
6.5 U.S.
quarts.
Fill up
with
washer
fluid
and water. The spray nozzles con-
sist
of
rotatable
balls;
to
adjust
the
direction
of
the
jet,
insert
a needle in the hole
of
the nozzle.
