Overview

The Saeco Primea Line is a series of automatic espresso machines, including the Primea Touch Plus, Primea Touch, and Primea Ring models, designed for domestic use. This technical service manual, updated in March 2007, provides comprehensive information for maintenance and repair.

Function Description:

The Primea Line machines are fully automatic espresso makers capable of preparing a variety of coffee and milk-based beverages, including espresso, coffee, long coffee, espresso macchiato, latte macchiato, cappuccino, and hot milk. They feature an integrated coffee grinder with ceramic plates, an autocappuccino system for automatic milk frothing, and a multi-way valve for managing water and steam circuits. The machines are equipped with a touchscreen display (on Touch and Touch Plus models) or a touch-ring interface (on Ring models) for user interaction and programming. A key feature is the SBS valve (Saeco Brewing System), which allows users to adjust coffee brewing time and intensity, maintaining consistent cream quality. The motor-driven drip tray and brew group facilitate ease of use and maintenance.

Usage Features:

The Primea Line offers a user-friendly interface with client and programming menus.

  • Client Menu: Allows access to "Programming menu" for machine function programming, special functions, maintenance and cleaning, and setting the appliance to standby.
  • Programming Menu:
    • Machine Settings: Modify parameters like cup illumination, menu language, display color brightness, water hardness, and enable/disable buzzers. It also includes settings for the cup warmer function.
    • Beverage Settings: Customize individual beverages, including temperature (low, high, medium), aroma (medium, light, preground, strong), use of coffee grinder 2 (for dual grinder versions), pre-brewing options (disabled, strong, normal), water volume (turb. pulses), milk time, and froth time.
    • Additional Functions: View beverage counters, total counters, error counters, and access auto test and exit diagnostics.
    • Timer Settings: Set date and display format, current time, and standby parameters.
  • Autocappuccino System: Enables automatic preparation of cappuccino, latte macchiato, caffè macchiato, and hot milk. The removable milk tank (0.4 l) can be stored in the fridge. An electromagnet blocks the door when a milk-based beverage is selected to ensure proper milk hatch positioning.
  • SBS Valve: A knob allows users to vary the amount of water passing through the brew unit, adjusting coffee brewing time and intensity while maintaining cream quality. The difference in dispensing speed between maximum and minimum positions is approximately 2.5 times greater.

Maintenance Features:

The manual outlines a comprehensive maintenance schedule and troubleshooting guide.

  • Routine Maintenance Checklist:
    • Daily/As instructed: Empty coffee grounds drawer and drip tray.
    • Weekly: Clean water tank, pre-ground coffee container, casing, and drip tray.
    • Monthly/Every 500 coffees: Clean and grease the brew group.
    • Monthly: Clean coffee unit filters.
    • After each milk dispense: Clean milk circuit.
    • Weekly: Clean coffee circuit.
    • As instructed: Descaling.
  • Descaling: The descaling frequency depends on water hardness and whether an Aqua Prima filter is used. For soft water (up to 7ºdH), descaling is recommended approximately every 3 months/120 litres (or 150/240 litres with Aqua Prima). For very hard water (over 21ºdH), it's approximately every 4 weeks/30 litres (or 60 litres with Aqua Prima).
  • Milk Circuit Cleaning: The machine prompts for milk circuit rinse after milk-based beverages (if not rinsed within 20 minutes, milk-based beverages are blocked). If no milk-based beverages are dispensed for 14 days, the machine requests cleaning with a cleaning tablet (after 21 days, all products are blocked).
  • Test Functions (Touch Plus/Touch/Ring): Access diagnostic modes by pressing specific key sequences during start-up or exit from standby. These modes allow checking CPU software version, power card software version, boot loader version, and testing various components like the brew group, grinder, heaters, multi-way valve, cappuccino valve, pump, motor-driven tray, cup illumination, and cup warmer.
  • Error Messages: The manual provides a list of error messages for service personnel, including issues with coffee grinders, brew group, pump flow rate, multivalve, cappuccino valve, power communication, sensor errors (water/steam heater), memory, clock, and cup lift.
  • Component Assembly/Disassembly: Detailed instructions are provided for disassembling and reassembling various components, including the top cover, side covers, brew unit, electronics, gearmotor, pump, boiler, multi-way valve, Oetiker clamps, coffee grinder, grinder adjustment, autocappuccino facility, and motor-driven drip tray.
  • Safety Check: Always performed during routine maintenance.
  • Packing: Check always, use new packaging if necessary.
