Overview

This document provides comprehensive information regarding the SAMES KREMLIN PUMP 20C100 / 20C100 T AIRMIX®, including its function, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance. It is a translation from the original manual and is intended for professional use only.

Function Description

The SAMES KREMLIN PUMP 20C100 / 20C100 T AIRMIX® is a stainless steel pump designed for supplying one or several spray guns. It is suitable for water-based or solvent-based paints with a viscosity lower than 1000 mPa/s. The pump operates on an alternating air motor mechanically coupled to a hydraulic section. The air motor is supplied with compressed air via a regulator (D) (yellow/green knob), and the pressure is read on a gauge (E). During its alternating movement, the air motor drives the piston of the hydraulic section (C), drawing fluid in (L) and forcing it under pressure in (N). The fluid pressure is always the one read on the gauge multiplied by the pump ratio. The spray air pressure of the gun is adjusted using a regulator (black knob) (F). The pump can be an "intensive™" type or a "Flowmax®" type (with bellows).

The equipment is designed for use in explosive areas (Zone 1 or Zone 2 spray booths) and complies with CE EX II 2 G European conformity standards.

Usage Features

Installation: The pumps are designed to be installed in a spray booth. It is crucial to read and understand all related documents before assembly and start-up. The installation diagram shows the pump (1) and spray gun (2) within an explosive area (Z1 or Z2). A minimum distance of 1 m / 39.37" is indicated for information, but the user is responsible for ensuring proper extraction and conditioning of the painting area according to EN 60079-10 standard.

Start-Up Procedure (Filling):

  1. Ground the pump.
  2. For "intensive™" pumps, fill the wetting-cup (S) with "T" lubricant (R) or an appropriate solvent.
  3. Unscrew the air regulators (D and F).
  4. Connect the air equipment to the air pressure network (clean air - Pressure < 6 bar / 87 psi). Install a water drop, model 3/4" (or model 3/8" for 500/4 air motor) if necessary.
  5. Connect all hoses (air, fluid, spray gun). Ensure hose diameters comply with specifications.
  6. Remove the nozzle from the spray gun.

Flushing with Solvent:

  1. Immerse suction rod (L) and drain rod (O) into the material container.
  2. Open the air shut-off valve (N).
  3. Open valve (H) of the pump air equipment to supply the air motor. (Note: For 5000 version air motors, pilot air is needed, supplied by the pump air equipment at a factory-preset maximum of 4 bar / 58 psi).
  4. Progressively increase air regulator (D) to make the pump run slowly (0.5 to 1 bar / 7.25 to 14.503 psi).
  5. Observe drain (O) until air bubbles cease, then shut off drain valve (N).

Priming with Material:

  1. Remove suction and drain rods from the solvent container and immerse them in a material-filled container.
  2. Open drain valve (N), wait for regular material flow, then shut off drain valve (N).
  3. Point spray gun towards material container and trigger until material flows regularly.

Work:

  1. Reinstall ring and aircap on spray gun.
  2. Adjust air regulator (D) for desired material pressure and flow rate.
  3. Gradually open air regulator (F) to adjust spraying air for the required spray pattern. (Note: Some "intensive™" pumps may not have air regulator (F); a spraying air kit can be mounted if needed).

Shutdown (Short Duration):

  1. Decrease material pressure of air regulator (D) to 0 bar / 0 psi on gauge (E).
  2. Trigger spray gun to depressurize.
  3. Unscrew spray gun air regulator (F) or disconnect spray gun air inlet.
  4. Remove aircap and nozzle, and soak in solvent.

Shutdown (Long Duration):

  1. Decrease air regulator (D) to 1 bar / 14.503 psi on gauge (E).
  2. Unscrew spray gun air regulator (F) or disconnect spray gun air inlet.
  3. Remove aircap and nozzle, and soak in solvent.
  4. Open drain valve; pump must operate slowly.
  5. Remove suction and drain rods from material container and immerse in solvent. Take precautions with flammable solvents.
  6. When solvent flows regularly, close drain valve.
  7. Point spray gun towards material container and press trigger. When solvent flows out, point towards recovery container.
  8. When solvent flows out, release spray gun trigger. (Note: For "intensive™" pumps, release trigger when pump is in low position to prevent seal damage during start-up).
  9. Fully unscrew air regulator (D) and shut off main compressed air valve (H).
  10. Press spray gun trigger to decompress hoses. Pump and hose remain filled with solvent at atmospheric pressure.

Safety Device: A relief valve (setting: 6.5 bar / 94 psi) is fitted on the pump air motor to protect it from overpressure.

Maintenance Features

Preventive Maintenance:

  • Pump: Ensure pump is clean and in good condition. If using "intensive™" pump, regularly clean the wetting-cup with "T" lubricant (which should be normally colored) or solvent after draining. Ensure suction strainer is clean and in good condition. Regularly clean and change if necessary. Flush the pump often, especially when spraying pigment-filled material.
  • Guards: Guards (motor cover, coupling shields, connectors, etc.) are designed for safe use. The manufacturer is not responsible for injuries or damage due to removal or partial removal of guards.
  • Material Handling: When stopping the pump, always leave it filled with material. For short duration shutdown, if flushing is not carried out, leave the pump filled with material. For short duration shutdown, after flushing, leave it filled with solvent.
  • Spray Gun: Comply with usual instructions for spray gun servicing.
  • Filter: If the pump is equipped with a filter at the fluid outlet, comply with usual instructions for filter servicing.

Troubleshooting:

  • Pump does not start: Check air supply. Ensure spray gun is fully opened and air evacuated. Check air intake at fitting or suction rod. Check pump valves for sticking or dry paint; blow air pressure directly by suction fitting.
  • Pump does not stop at once when shutting off spray gun: Pump stops only on down stroke. Pump stops only on up stroke. Check exhaust valve or valve seal. Check suction valve or upper cartridge.
  • Pump does not reverse: Check spring of air motor reversing block. Lubricate reversing-block with HP 150 oil. Check if pilot air is present (depending on air motor model).
  • On intensive™ pump, lubricant into cup is fastly coloured: Check upper packing (tighten cup or change seals if necessary).
  • On FLOWMAX® pump, leakage of fluid at bottom of air motor: Check bellows.
  • Spraying trouble: Refer to spray gun instruction manual.
  • Decrease of material flow: Refer to filter instruction manual.

Disassembly / Reassembly (Stainless Steel AIRMIX® Pumps): Detailed instructions and diagrams are provided for disassembling and reassembling the suction valve, exhaust valve, mobile packing, upper packing, and reversing block. Specific greases and sealants are recommended for various components (PTFE grease A1, anti-seize grease A2, medium strength anaerobic pipe sealant C1).

Spare Parts Lists: Extensive lists of spare parts are provided for various pump configurations, including bare pumps, wall-mounted pumps, cart-mounted pumps, and different air motor models (1000-4, 1000-4T, 500-4, 2000-2). These lists include descriptions, part numbers, and quantities for components such as air regulators, filters, hoses, and various internal pump parts. Maintenance kits are also available for specific sections of the pump.
