Overview

This document describes the Samsung HW-Q910D and HW-Q850D Soundbars, along with their associated Subwoofer (PS-WQ930D) and Surround Speakers (PS-RQ910D). These devices are designed to enhance your audio experience, offering features for both wired and wireless connectivity, as well as advanced sound optimization.

Function Description

The Soundbar system serves as a central audio hub, capable of playing sound from various sources and delivering a rich, immersive audio experience. It supports advanced audio formats like Dolby ATMOS and DTS:X, providing multi-dimensional surround sound. The main unit features a display and essential control buttons on its top panel, while the bottom panel houses power, service, and audio input/output connections.

The system includes a dedicated Subwoofer for enhanced bass response and a pair of Wireless Surround Speakers (PS-RQ910D) to create a true surround sound environment. These components connect wirelessly to the main Soundbar unit, simplifying setup and reducing cable clutter.

A key feature is the Q-Symphony function, which allows the Soundbar to synchronize with compatible Samsung TVs to play audio simultaneously through both devices. This creates a more expansive and three-dimensional soundstage, leveraging the TV's speakers in conjunction with the Soundbar for a richer audio output.

The SpaceFit Sound function is another advanced feature that optimizes sound for your specific listening environment. Using the Soundbar's built-in microphone, it analyzes the acoustics of the room and automatically adjusts the sound settings to provide optimal audio performance.

For connectivity, the Soundbar supports both wired and wireless options. Wired connections include HDMI (eARC/ARC) for seamless integration with TVs and digital optical input for other external devices. Wireless connectivity is primarily handled through Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Bluetooth allows for easy pairing with mobile devices and TVs, while Wi-Fi connectivity, managed via the SmartThings app, enables integration into your home network for streaming and control.

The system also supports software upgrades via a USB service port, ensuring that your Soundbar can stay up-to-date with the latest features and improvements.

Usage Features

Power and Basic Operation:

To turn on the Soundbar from standby mode, press the (Multi Function) button on the top panel. This button also allows you to cycle through different input sources. The Soundbar is designed for continuous use, but for complete power off or extended periods of disuse, the AC plug should be disconnected from the wall outlet.

Connecting Components:

The Subwoofer and Surround Speakers connect wirelessly to the main Soundbar unit. The LINK LED indicator on these components will blink blue during the connection process and glow a solid blue once a stable connection is established. If the connection isn't automatic, an "ID SET" procedure can be initiated by pressing the ID SET button on the back of the Subwoofer and Wireless Receiver Module, followed by a specific sequence on the Soundbar's remote control (pressing the Up button for 5 seconds).

Wired Connections:

For TV audio, connect an HDMI cable from the Soundbar's HDMI TO TV (eARC/ARC) port to the corresponding HDMI port on your TV. Ensure that HDMI-CEC (Anynet+) is enabled on your TV for proper function. For other digital audio sources, use the DIGITAL AUDIO IN (OPTICAL) port. Remember to remove any protective covers from optical cable terminals before insertion.

Wireless Connections (Bluetooth):

To connect a Bluetooth device, switch the Soundbar to "BT PAIRING" mode. This can be done by pressing the PAIR button on the remote control or by pressing and holding the (Mic On/Off) button on the top panel for 5 seconds while in "BT" mode. If a PIN code is requested, enter "0000". The Soundbar can also reconnect to previously paired devices when in "BT READY" mode.

Wireless Connections (Wi-Fi):

For Wi-Fi connectivity, you'll need the SmartThings app on a mobile device. Connect your mobile device to the same Wi-Fi network as your TV, then follow the in-app instructions to connect the Soundbar to your Wi-Fi network.

Microphone Control:

The (Mic On/Off) button on the top panel allows you to toggle the microphone on or off. When the microphone is off, its LED indicator will glow red.

Sound Optimization:

The SpaceFit Sound function automatically analyzes your listening space and optimizes the sound. No manual intervention is typically required for this feature.

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides guidance for common issues such as the Soundbar not turning on, wireless components not connecting, erratic Soundbar behavior, remote control issues, lack of sound output, and connectivity problems with HDMI, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi. Solutions often involve checking power connections, re-initializing components, adjusting volume, or ensuring correct input selection. For persistent issues, contacting Samsung customer support is recommended.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning:

The Soundbar and its components should be cleaned only with a dry cloth. Avoid using liquids or abrasive cleaners.

Software Updates:

The Soundbar supports software upgrades via a USB storage device connected to the SERVICE port on the bottom panel. This allows for continuous improvement and new features to be added to your device.

Battery Replacement:

The remote control requires battery replacement. Ensure to use new batteries and dispose of old ones responsibly.

Environmental Considerations:

The device should not be exposed to rain, moisture, direct sunlight, or excessive heat. Ensure adequate ventilation (3-4 inches of space around the unit) and avoid placing it near heat sources like radiators or amplifiers. Protect the product from strong magnetic or electric fields.

Battery Safety:

The batteries used in the product contain chemicals harmful to the environment. Do not dispose of them in general household trash. Avoid exposing batteries to excess heat, direct sunlight, or fire. Do not short-circuit, disassemble, or overheat the battery. Incorrect battery replacement carries a risk of explosion, so always replace with the same or equivalent type.

Power Cord Management:

Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, especially at plugs and where it exits the apparatus. Disconnect the AC plug from the wall outlet during lightning storms or when the unit will be unused for long periods to prevent damage from voltage peaks.

Servicing:

Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Do not attempt to remove the cover or access internal parts, as there are no user-serviceable components inside. Servicing is required if the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as a damaged power cord or plug, liquid spills, objects falling into the apparatus, exposure to rain or moisture, or if it does not operate normally or has been dropped.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Deactivation:

For specific situations, the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth ports can be deactivated. Wi-Fi can be turned on/off by pressing the CH LEVEL button on the remote control for 30 seconds. Bluetooth can be turned on/off by pressing the TONE CONTROL button on the remote control for 30 seconds.
