Overview

This document describes a Samsung Microwave Oven, focusing on its functions, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Samsung Microwave Oven is designed for heating, cooking, and drying food. It operates as a microwave hood combination, providing both cooking capabilities and ventilation for the cooktop below. The oven is equipped with various preset cooking programs, including "Precise Touch Cooking" for items like popcorn, potatoes, pizza, and vegetables, as well as "Preset Cooking (AC - Auto Cook)" for beverages, frozen dinners, frozen breakfasts, and chicken breast. It also features "Preset Reheating (Rh - Reheat)" for dinner plates, casseroles, and pasta, and "Preset Defrosting" which allows users to defrost food by weight. For more specific tasks, the "Soften/Melt (St - Soften Melt)" function handles melting chocolate, softening cream cheese, and butter.

Beyond cooking, the appliance includes a "Vent Fan" to control air circulation above the cooktop, which can operate at different speeds and automatically turns on at a low setting when it senses heat from the cooktop. A "Cooktop Light" provides illumination for the cooking surface, with high, low, and off settings, and the low setting can double as a night light.

The microwave oven incorporates several safety features, including interlocks to prevent operation with an open door and a grounding system to reduce the risk of electric shock. It is not designed for industrial or laboratory use, nor for heating corrosive chemicals or vapors.

Usage Features

The microwave oven offers both manual and stage cooking. Users can enter cook time and power level (10-90) using number pads. For multi-stage cooking, cook time and power are entered for each stage. The "Add 30 Seconds (One Minute +)" feature allows for quick starts at 100% power for 30 seconds or to add time in 30-second increments to any manual cooking cycle.

A "Cooking Rack" is available on some models for 2-level cooking, though it must be removed after use to prevent damage. The "Turntable," also available on some models, can be turned off for manual cooking when using oversized plates or multiple plates side-by-side, but it remains active during preset or sensor functions.

The appliance includes several user-friendly settings. A standard 12-hour "Clock" can be set, and a "Kitchen Timer" functions independently of cooking operations. For added safety, a "Control Lock" feature (on some models) can be activated to prevent unintended starts. "Tones" (on some models) for programming and signals can be customized by turning them on or off. An "Eco Mode" (on some models) helps reduce standby power usage by turning off the display and minimizing power consumption.

The manual provides guidance on suitable cookware, recommending materials like ceramic, porcelain, stoneware, glass, paper products, and certain plastics, while advising against metal, straw, wicker, non-approved meat thermometers, and sealed containers due to safety risks. A simple test is provided to check cookware suitability: place the dish with a cup of water on the turntable and microwave for one minute at 100%; if the dish gets hot and the water stays cool, it's not suitable.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the microwave oven's longevity and safe operation. Before any cleaning or maintenance, it is important to ensure all controls are off and the oven is cool. The manual emphasizes following label instructions for cleaning products.

General cleaning involves using mild soap, water, and a soft cloth or sponge. Specific components require tailored cleaning:

  • Grease filters: Should be removed from the underside of the oven and cleaned monthly with mild soap and water or in a dishwasher.
  • Door and exterior: Cleaned with mild soap and water, or glass cleaner applied to a paper towel.
  • Control panel: Wiped with a sponge or soft cloth and water.
  • Stainless steel surfaces (on some models): Cleaned with mild soap and water, rinsed with clean water, and dried with a soft cloth, or a stainless steel cleaner.
  • Turntable: Can be cleaned with mild soap and water or in a dishwasher.
  • Cooking rack and supports (on some models): Cleaned with mild soap, water, and a washcloth; dishwasher cleaning is not recommended.

The manual explicitly warns against using benzene, thinner, alcohol, or steam cleaners, as these can cause discoloration, deformation, damage, electric shock, fire, or corrosion. It also advises against cleaning with metal scouring pads to prevent electrical shock.

For filter replacement, the "Charcoal filter," located behind the vent grille at the top front of the oven, cannot be cleaned and should be replaced approximately every 6 months.

Light bulb replacement instructions are also provided:

  • Cooktop light: Located on the underside of the oven and is replaceable.
  • Cavity light: Located behind the vent grille at the top front of the oven, under the bulb cover, and is replaceable.

The document stresses the importance of keeping the cavity, microwave inlet cover, cooking rack supports, and the area where the door touches the frame clean to prevent damage from arcing due to soil buildup.
