Do you have a question about the Samsung MOK-100LA and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document is an installation manual for the Samsung System Air Conditioner's Low Ambient Cooling Kit (LAC KIT), model MOK-100LA. It provides comprehensive instructions for installing, configuring, and maintaining the kit, ensuring proper operation in low ambient temperature conditions.

Function Description

The LAC KIT is designed to extend the operating range of Samsung System Air Conditioners, enabling cooling operation down to -13°F (-25°C). It achieves this by controlling airflow and managing the outdoor unit's performance in cold environments. The kit includes an Assy Control Kit and a Low Ambient Damper, which work in conjunction with the outdoor unit's main PBA (Printed Board Assembly) to regulate cooling capacity and ensure stable operation. The control kit manages the damper's movement, allowing it to adjust airflow based on ambient temperature, thereby preventing issues like coil frosting or reduced efficiency in low temperatures.

Important Technical Specifications

The manual details various components and their quantities, including:

  • Assy Control Kit: Consists of a Main PBA, SMPS PBA, and Terminal Block.
  • Components: Includes 1 Body, 1 Communication Cable, 1 Power Cable, 5 Cable Ties, 1 Installation Manual, 1 Grounding Screw, and 2 Connection Cables.

    • LACH-R2-B: Low Ambient Cooling Hood - Rear 2 (S2 Large Chassis)
    • LACH-F1-B: Low Ambient Cooling Hood - Front 1 (S2 Large Chassis)
    • LACH-1-B: Low Ambient Cooling Kit Damper - 1 (S2 Small Chassis)
    • LACH-2-B: Low Ambient Cooling Kit Damper - 2 (S2 Large Chassis)
    • LACH-3-B: Low Ambient Cooling Kit Damper - 3 (S2 X-Large Chassis)
  • Dimensions: Detailed diagrams with measurements in inches are provided for various damper models (LACH-SR, LACH-SL, LACH-R1, LACH-R2, LACH-SLR, LACH-R3, LACH-F1, LACH-SL-B, LACH-SR-B, LACH-R1-B, LACH-R2-B, LACH-F1-B, and Damper-1, Damper-2 for different chassis types).
  • Cooling Performance Correction Factor: The manual specifies correction factors for cooling capacity based on outdoor temperature:
    • Less than 23°F: 1.00
    • Less than 99°F: 1.00
    • Less than 107°F: 0.95
    • Greater than 107°F: 0.90
    • Capacity Correction = Cooling Capacity x Correction Factor.
  • Electrical Work: Requires qualified personnel and adherence to electrical specifications, including proper voltage supply and specified copper power cables.

Usage Features

  • Installation Environment: The frame and foundation for the outdoor unit with the LAC KIT must be 12 inches or more in height. Obstacles screening the damper outlet should be removed, and the damper outlet should be aligned with the main wind direction for optimal performance.
  • Damper Installation: Requires a lift or crane, or at least two people. The guard fan must be removed from the outdoor unit before installation. Screws must be fastened in all 34 marked places when connecting the damper to the outdoor unit.
  • Wiring: Connect the main PBA to power supplies (L1, L2) and communication cables (OF1, OF2). Grounding between the outdoor unit and LAC KIT is crucial. Power and communication cables must be extracted through designated knockouts and secured with cable protection conduit and insulation bushings.
  • Configuration: After installation, the LAC KIT function must be enabled on the outdoor unit's main PBA. This involves accessing the option setup menu using the K1 and K2 tact switches on the control board. The desired option (LAC KIT setup) is selected, and its value is set to "Applied" (01 for Seg3 and Seg4).
  • Address Setting: The address for the connected outdoor unit must be set using the Dip S/W on the control board. Options include addresses No.1 to No.4 for connection to Main, Sub1, Sub2, or Sub3 outdoor units, respectively. The 7-segment display shows the corresponding address (e.g., 08 for No.1, 66 for No.4).
  • Actuator Operation: The actuator, which controls the damper, must be assembled with correct alignment and rotation to prevent malfunction. The direction of the actuator can be changed as needed.

Maintenance Features

  • Safety Information: Emphasizes cutting off power before installation, maintenance, or cleaning. Installation must be performed by qualified personnel using provided parts and specified tools to prevent leaks, electric shock, or fire.
  • Grounding: Proper grounding is essential and should not contact gas pipes, water pipes, lightning rods, or telephone grounding wires.
  • Cable Management: Power and communication lines should be placed at least 1m from other electronic devices and 2m from lightning rod down conductors to avoid noise interference. Wires must be firmly fixed to prevent movement and heating of connectors.
  • Power Limits: Caution is advised not to exceed the power limit of the LAC KIT or supply less than the minimum voltage to prevent damage or dysfunction.
  • Installation Location: Avoid installing the product in places with mineral oil, scattering oil, steam, corrosive gases (sulfur dioxide), electromagnetic waves, flammable gases/dust, or areas directly affected by extreme temperature, humidity, or dust.
  • Firmware Update: If the outdoor unit's main software version is prior to June 2016, the LAC KIT setup will be unavailable, requiring a firmware update for the Main PBA (DB92-03752A).
  • Post-Installation Inspection: After power supply, the louver automatically moves through a full close and full open cycle (3 minutes) to verify operation. Checks include LAC KIT operation, clearance in full close (should not exceed 1/4 inch to avoid performance degradation), and matching of the outdoor unit's address on the 7-segment display with the LAC KIT address.
  • Error Code (E203): Indicates a communication error between the LAC KIT and the outdoor unit. The error handling changes the state to LCA KIT Full Open. Troubleshooting involves checking the communication cable connection status.
  • Version Check: The LAC KIT version (year, month, date) can be displayed on the 7-segment by changing dip switch #4.
