Questions and Answers

Overview

This document is a user manual for a Samsung Series 6 & 7 TV, providing essential information for setup, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Samsung Series 6 & 7 TV is a display device designed for home entertainment, offering access to online services, software updates, and various media content. It features a high-resolution display and is equipped with a Samsung Smart Remote for intuitive control, including voice interaction. The TV can be connected to a network wirelessly or via a wired connection, enabling access to Smart Hub and other internet-based functionalities. It also supports mobile network connectivity through a separately sold Mobile Dongle.

Usage Features

Initial Setup: Upon first activation, the TV presents an initial setup dialogue box to guide users through the configuration process. This process can also be initiated manually later via the Settings > System > Start Setup menu.

Samsung Smart Remote (Voice Interaction version): The TV comes with a Smart Remote that pairs automatically upon first use. If pairing fails, users can manually pair by pointing the remote at the TV's sensor and holding the Return and Play/Pause buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds or more. The remote features:

  • Power Button: Turns the TV on and off.
  • Voice Recognition Button: Activates voice interaction. Press, speak a command, then release. A guide to voice interaction appears when pressed once.
  • Number Pad (123): Displays a number strip on screen for entering numeric values (e.g., changing channels, entering PINs, ZIP codes). Holding for 1 second or more brings up the TTX menu.
  • 4 Colour Buttons: Provide access to additional options specific to the current feature.
  • EXTRA Button: Displays extra information from the content provider while watching content.
  • Directional Pad (up/down/left/right): Navigates menus and changes values.
  • Select Button: Selects or runs a focused item. Displays detailed program information when pressed while watching content.
  • Return Button: Returns to the previous menu. Holding for 1 second or more terminates the running function. Displays the previous channel when watching a program.
  • Smart Hub Button: Returns to the Home Screen.
  • Play/Pause Button: Displays playback controls for media content.
  • Volume (VOL) Button: Moves up or down to adjust volume. Pressing mutes the sound. Holding for 1 second or more brings up the Accessibility Shortcuts menu.
  • Channel (CH) Button: Moves up or down to change the channel. Pressing displays the Guide screen.

TV Controller: Located at the bottom of the TV, the TV Controller button allows basic operation. Pressing it while the TV is on brings up the Control menu, offering options for Power off, Volume Up/Down, Channel Up/Down, and Source selection. Pressing the button moves through options, and pressing and holding selects an option.

Network Connection: The TV can connect to a network via:

  • Wireless: Using a standard IP router or modem with a DHCP server.
  • Wired: Using a LAN cable (CAT 7 *STP type recommended) connected to the TV's rear panel LAN port. The TV supports network speeds greater than 10 Mbps.
  • Mobile Network: Requires a separately purchased Mobile Dongle inserted into a USB port.

e-Manual: An embedded e-Manual provides information on key TV features. A printable version is available on the Samsung website. Access the e-Manual via Settings > Support > Open e-Manual. It includes search, index, recent pages, "Try Now" for direct feature access, and links to reference pages.

Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting section for common issues, including:

  • TV not turning on: Check power cord, wall outlet, and try the TV's power button.
  • No picture/sound or "Weak or No Signal": Verify device connections, cables, input source, and perform a TV self-diagnosis (Start Sound Test or Start Picture Test). Reboot connected devices. Run Auto Tuning if not connected to a cable/satellite box.
  • Remote control not working: Check batteries, ensure correct polarity, point remote directly at TV, and re-pair Bluetooth remotes if applicable.
  • Cable/satellite box remote not controlling TV: Program the remote with the SAMSUNG TV code.
  • TV settings lost after 5 minutes: Change Usage Mode to Home Mode (Settings > System > Expert Settings > Usage Mode > Home Mode).
  • Intermittent Wi-Fi: Check network connection status, Wi-Fi password, distance to modem/router (should not exceed 15.2m), and reduce interference from other wireless devices. Contact ISP to reset network circuit.
  • Video App problems (e.g., YouTube): Change DNS to 8.8.8.8 (Settings > Network > Network Status > IP Settings > DNS setting > Enter manually > DNS Server > enter 8.8.8.8 > OK). Reset Smart Hub (Settings > Support > Self Diagnosis > Reset Smart Hub).

Remote Support: Samsung offers remote support where a technician can diagnose, adjust settings, perform factory resets, and install firmware updates on the TV. To use, call the Samsung Contact Centre, open the Support section on the TV, select Remote Management, agree to terms, and provide the PIN to the agent.

Maintenance Features

Eco Sensor and Screen Brightness: The Eco Sensor automatically adjusts TV brightness based on room light to optimize power consumption. This feature can be turned off via Settings > System > Eco Solution > Eco Sensor. Ensure the sensor is not blocked to prevent decreased picture brightness.

Still Image Warning: To prevent image burn-in on the LED screen, avoid displaying still images (e.g., JPEG files, channel logos, news crawls, panorama/4:3 formats) for long periods. Recommendations include:

  • Avoid displaying the same TV channel for extended durations.
  • Always try to display images in full screen; use the picture format menu for best match.
  • Reduce brightness and contrast.
  • Utilize all TV features designed to reduce image retention and screen burn (refer to e-Manual).

Caring for the TV:

  • Cleaning: If a sticker was attached to the screen, clean any debris before watching. Wipe the exterior and screen carefully with a soft, dry micro-fiber cloth to prevent scratches. For the body, use a soft cloth dampened with a small amount of water.
  • Cleaning Agents: Do not use flammable liquids (benzene, thinners, alcohol, insecticides, aerial fresheners, lubricants, or detergents) as they can damage the TV's appearance or erase printing.
  • Liquids: Do not spray water or any liquid directly onto the TV, as it can cause failure, fire, or electric shock. For stubborn smudges on the screen, spray a small amount of screen cleaner onto the cloth, not directly onto the TV.
  • Handling: Do not drop or strike the product. If damaged, disconnect power and contact a service center.
  • Ventilation: Maintain at least 10 cm distance between the TV and other objects (walls, cabinet sides) for proper ventilation to prevent overheating, fire, or product problems.
  • Power Consumption: To decrease power consumption, unplug the power cord when the TV will not be used for a long time, as it draws a small amount of power in Standby mode.

TV Installation:

  • Wall Mounting: Follow manufacturer instructions precisely. Samsung is not responsible for damage or injury from improper installation. Install wall mount adapters (if provided) before the wall mount kit.
  • VESA Wall Mount Kit: For solid walls, contact a dealer for information before attaching to surfaces other than plasterboard. Do not install on ceilings or slanted walls. Use screws that comply with VESA specifications and are not too long. Do not fasten screws too firmly.
  • Safety: Do not install the wall mount kit while the TV is on. Do not mount the TV at more than a 15-degree tilt. Always have two people mount the TV onto a wall.
  • Stand Installation: Ensure all accessories are present and follow assembly instructions.
  • Securing to Wall (Safety Precaution): To prevent the TV from falling, especially with children, use recommended cabinets/stands, ensure furniture can safely support the TV, prevent overhang, anchor tall furniture and the TV to a suitable support, avoid placing cloth/materials between TV and furniture, and educate children about climbing dangers. For existing relocated TVs, apply the same precautions.
  • Preventing Falls: Fasten brackets to the wall and the TV, then connect them with a durable, heavy-duty string. Install the TV near the wall and ensure wall brackets are at the same height as or lower than TV brackets.

Battery Safety:

  • Dispose of batteries properly according to local environmental regulations.
  • Do not dispose of batteries in a fire.
  • Do not short-circuit, disassemble, or overheat batteries.
  • Replace remote control batteries with the same or equivalent type to avoid explosion risk. Alkaline batteries are recommended for longer battery life.
