December 2, 2022 Scala, Inc. Page | 9
Required Materials for Setup
To set up the Scala Media Player, you will need:
• Display monitor(s) [HDMI v.1.4b or better] The SMPA-R1x05G’s are designed to support up to HDMI
v.2.0a, 2160p@60Hz, devices.
• One or two RJ-45 CAT6 Ethernet cable(s), connected to the appropriate Ethernet Switches, or other
compatible 100/1000Base-T devices, for wired networking communications.
• A 100V..240V, (50Hz or 60Hz), electrical outlet (units ship with sales-destination-market power leads)
• One or two HDMI cables—three meters or less (<=2 meters strongly encouraged + rated as being
HDMI 2.0 compliant)
• A USB-Keyboard, (optionally with integrated trackpad or a separate USB Mouse)
Connecting the Cables
1. Connect the SMPA unit to the intended display(s) using HDMI 2.0 cables.
2. If using a wired network, plug a cable into the RJ-45 jack on the back of the unit.
If configuring a unit to use a wireless network, screw in the included WIFI antenna, (…or 3
rd
-Party
compatible Antenna extensions), into the SMA-connector on the front of the unit.
3. Plug the power cord into the power connector on the back of the unit.
4. Plug the power cord into an appropriate, 100V..240V(50Hz or 60Hz), AC electrical outlet.
Once the unit is plugged in, press the power button on the front of the device in order to turn the Scala
Media Player on.
The default Power-configuration-state for the SMPA is “PREVIOUS”.
[i.e.: when AC-Power is restored, the unit will resume its previous power-state, either ON or OFF, depending
on the state prior to the loss of AC-power. This behavior can be changed to either “Always Power ON” or
“Always stay OFF” in the UEFI-BIOS’s CMOS Setup Menu]
A factory-new unit will boot a highly customized, Windows-10-IoT-Ent.2019-LTSC, Operating System and will
auto-logon into “SCALA”, (Configuration) User Account.
Before proceeding with local player configuration, ensure that you have created a player profile
entry in the relevant Scala Enterprise Content Manager Server!
