Overview

The Sealey FPS6 Motorcycle Front Wheel Chock is a robust and versatile device designed to secure the front wheel of a motorcycle, providing stability for storage, maintenance, or transportation. Manufactured to a high standard, this product aims to offer years of trouble-free performance when used and maintained correctly.

Function Description

The primary function of the FPS6 is to securely hold the front wheel of a motorcycle, eliminating the need for side or center stands. It features an adjustable pivoting wheel guide that cradles the front wheel, ensuring stability. This design is particularly useful for various applications, including:

  • Storage: Keeping a motorcycle upright and stable in a garage or workshop.
  • Maintenance: Providing a secure base for performing repairs or routine maintenance tasks.
  • Transportation: Securing the motorcycle within a trailer or van, preventing movement during transit.

The pivoting wheel guide automatically adjusts to the wheel's position as the motorcycle is pushed into the chock, flipping up to support the rear of the tire and firmly holding it in place. This self-securing mechanism simplifies the process of parking and securing a motorcycle.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model Number: FPS6
  • Tyre Width Compatibility: The chock is designed to accommodate motorcycle tyres with widths ranging from 90mm to 130mm.
  • Tyre Diameter Compatibility: It supports wheel diameters from 430mm to 535mm.
  • Adjustable Heights: The hinged cradle offers three adjustable height positions to cater to different wheel diameters:
    • Position 1: For larger wheels up to 535mm in diameter.
    • Position 3: For smaller wheels down to 430mm in diameter.
    • Position 2: For sizes in between the stated limits.
  • Mounting: The frame includes square mounting holes suitable for 'coach' type bolts, which prevent rotation during tightening. Fixings are included for permanent installation.
  • Lashing Strap Gap: The base features a dedicated gap for lashing straps, allowing the motorcycle to be securely tied down for transport.

Usage Features

Installation: The FPS6 can be installed permanently indoors or outdoors, or temporarily for transportation purposes.

  • Permanent Installation: Requires careful selection of a site that offers good access for inserting and removing the motorcycle. For indoor use, ensure the chock and motorcycle do not obstruct pathways or vehicles. It must be secured to a solid concrete surface using anchor bolt fixings.
  • Transportation Installation: When used in a trailer or van, the chock must be firmly bolted to the floor, ensuring the floor is strong enough to support the combined weight of the motorcycle(s) and the chock. For transport, the front wheel must be securely strapped to the chock using the lashing strap gap, and additional security for the rear wheel is recommended.

Operation:

  1. Set Cradle Height: Before use, determine the motorcycle's front wheel diameter and adjust the hinged cradle to the correct height (Position 1 for large wheels, Position 3 for small wheels, Position 2 for in-between). This involves removing and re-inserting bolts, then tightening the nuts just enough to allow the cradle to pivot freely.
  2. Position Motorcycle: With the cradle in the open position, align the motorcycle with the chock.
  3. Engage Chock: Push the motorcycle firmly into the chock. As the front tyre passes over the inner loop of the cradle, the cradle will flip up, securing the rear of the tyre.
  4. Check Stability: Verify that the motorcycle is stable within the chock. If loose, move the cradle up. If the wheel is too high, move the cradle down.
  5. Removal: More effort is required to remove the bike. Ensure the area in front of the motorcycle is clear of obstructions and people.

Safety Precautions:

  • Always ensure nothing on the front forks or fairing will foul the chock.
  • Maintain the chock in good condition, using only genuine parts for repairs.
  • Install on a level, strong surface (preferably concrete); avoid unstable surfaces like tarmacadam.
  • Keep the work area clean, tidy, and well-lit.
  • Maintain correct balance and footing when positioning the motorcycle.
  • Wear non-slip shoes.
  • Secure the motorcycle adequately for transportation.
  • Keep children and unauthorized persons away from the work area.
  • Never use the chock for purposes other than its design, if damaged, or under the influence of alcohol/drugs.
  • Do not modify the chock.
  • Before removing the motorcycle, ensure the path is clear.

Maintenance Features

  • Storage: When not in use, the chock should be left in the open position.
  • Cleaning: Keep the chock clean by wiping off any oil or grease.
  • Pre-Use Checks: Before each use, inspect all parts of the chock. Any damaged or defective parts must be remedied, and the chock removed from service until repaired.

The Sealey FPS6 is designed for durability and ease of use, providing a reliable solution for motorcycle stability and security across various applications.
