his Tractor is equipped with tw o safe ty sw i tch -
es . One switch i s located on the gear shift lever
(D, F i g. 9, Page 6, at point E) . The other switch
i s l ocated on attachme nt c I utch lever (C , Fig. 3,
Page 4). The gear shift leve r must be in neutral
(center posi tion}. The attachment clutch lever
must also be in d ise ngaged ( out), pos it i on for
e ngine to start. Turn key (F, Fig. 11, Page 6),
in ignition-starter switch clockwise to engage
starter. When engine starts, release key . Afte r
engi
ne star ts, push in choke control as engine
warms up. Let eng i ne warm up before applying
load. CAUT I ON: Do not run starter cont i nuously
for mo re than 30 seconds at a time. If afte r
several at temp ts, engine does not start, move
thro tt le control (C), to fast posit io n. Wait two
minutes and try again.
NOTE: If at tachment clutch lever in te rferes with
attachment to be used, r emove handle.
CAUT I ON: F i rst move handl e to "OUT" position,
th en remov e nut and handle. Save for us e with at -
tachment for which it is requi re d.

To stop engine, turn ignition key in a counter -
clockw is e di re ction to OFF posit i on. Key should
be removed to prevent unauthorized operation.

l. Try your Tractor in a large, open space . Learn
to start, stop and reverse.
2. Start the engine and put the throttle lever at
about 1/3 throttle. Push down on foot pedal,
move gear shift lever and range shift lever to
speed desired. Release foot pedal slowly, and
Tractor will start to move. After foot pedal is
fully released (clutch engaged), move throttle
lever to fast position. If ground travel is t oo
f
ast, reduce throttl e lever to about Y2 throttle or
depress foot pedal and shift to a slower ground
travel speed. Always select a ground travel
speed that will suit attachment being used and
not overload the eng in e.
3. Do not shift gears while Tractor is movi ng.
4. To stop Tractor, p ush foot pedal all the way
down and reduce throttle lever to about Y2 throttle.
D isen gage power to attachment. Move gear shift
lever to n eut ral, set park in g brake lock and re-
lease foot pedal . Always check to make sure
brake lock w il l hold Tractor secure. Shut -o ff and
remove key from swi tch . This will prevent un-
author i zed operation. Keep key in a safe place
out of reach of chi ldren . Never l eave eng i ne
runni ng w ith Trac t or unattended.

5. Do not operate the Tractor in high gear going
down hi ll. Do not turn sharp corners whi le
going down hill. If it is necessa ry to stop
Trac tor while going down hill, do so quick ly to
prevent Tractor from picking up speed during the
declutching to brake position.
NOTE: The engine produces consid er ab le brak-
i ng action when throttled bock to idling speed
without dec l utch i ng. This procedure is re-
commended before applying brake.

SLOPES W IT H MORE THA N A 15 DEGREE SLOPE.
6. Do not shift gears whi le going up steep hills.
Choose a low enough gear to climb hill without
stopping and shifting gears. If it is necessary
to stop while goi ng up hill, do so q uickly to
prevent T recto r ro IIi ng bac k ward. Before star t-
ing Tractor in mot ion going uphill, use one of
th e lowest gears. Reduce engine sp eed and en-
gage clutch gradually to preven t T roc tor from
"rearing up".
7. Upsets can happe n easi ly in d itches. Stay alert
for hol es or other yard hazards.
8. If tra cto r becomes mi red in a hole, try to bock out
rather than d ri ving f orward.

a reasona ble safe speed no t faster than 6 miles
per hour .
