The Segway Drift W1 is a recreational self-balancing electric vehicle designed for personal mobility and entertainment. It consists of two independent mainframes, each with a single wheel, allowing for a unique and dynamic riding experience. The device is intended for riders aged 6 years and older, with a weight range of 22 to 220 lbs (10-100 kg).
The Segway Drift W1 operates by detecting gentle pressure applied to its foot mats, translating these movements into forward, backward, and turning motions. When powered on and placed on the ground, the device enters Standby Mode. It transitions to Balance Mode when gently touched on a tilted end, ready for a rider to step on. If no rider is detected within one minute in Balance Mode, it automatically returns to Standby Mode. The device is highly sensitive, requiring riders to relax and maintain a steady center of gravity for optimal control.
Each mainframe is equipped with a power button, power level indicators (four LED lights, each with two statuses: on or blinking, indicating remaining power), and glow lights. The glow lights can be activated by pressing and holding the power button for about 3 seconds after the device is powered on. Handles are integrated into each mainframe, allowing for easy lifting and carrying when the device is powered off.
The Segway Drift W1 is designed to be ridden on flat, hard surfaces free of obstacles and bumps. It is not suitable for public roads, motorways, highways, or streets, nor for traversing bumps, uneven terrain, or slopes steeper than 10 degrees. Riding through puddles or other bodies of water, or in snow, rain, or on wet, muddy, icy, or slippery roads, is strongly discouraged as it can lead to loss of balance, traction, falls, and potential damage to the device, including the battery pack.
Before the first ride, users are strongly advised to read the User Manual and complete the New Rider Tutorial, accessible via a QR code on the Welcome Card. Safety is paramount, and wearing an approved helmet and other protective gear is mandatory to minimize injury risk.
To begin riding, both mainframes should be placed shoulder-width apart on the ground and put into Balance Mode. With assistance from a friend, the rider places one foot on the middle of a mainframe's foot mat, stands straight, and then steps up with the other foot, avoiding rocking motions. The device has no designated front or back, allowing riders to step on from either direction.
Control is achieved by applying gentle pressure to the foot mat. Pressing the front end moves the device forward, while pressing the rear end moves it backward. Turning is accomplished by gently leaning the entire body left or right. Riders are cautioned against sudden acceleration or deceleration. If the device tilts back or an alarm sounds, it indicates that the speed limit has been reached, and the rider should slow down. Stepping off involves slowing to a controlled stop, shifting weight to one foot, and placing the opposite foot on the ground.
The device features an alarm system, including an overheating alarm. If the internal temperature exceeds 122°F (50°C) during extended use, the glow lights will flash red, an alarm will sound, and charging will be disabled. In such cases, the rider should step off, power off the device, and allow it to cool down. Other alarms may indicate issues requiring a restart or contact with after-sales service.
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of the Segway Drift W1. The mainframe can be cleaned with a soft, wet cloth. For stubborn dirt, a toothbrush and toothpaste can be used, followed by a soft, wet cloth. It is crucial not to use alcohol, gasoline, acetone, or other corrosive/volatile solvents, as these can damage the device's appearance and internal structure. Power washers or high-pressure hoses should also be avoided. Before cleaning, the device must be powered off, the charging cable unplugged, and the rubber cap on the charge port tightly sealed to prevent electric shock or damage to electronic components.
The Segway Drift W1 should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures (both hot and cold), which can accelerate the aging of plastic components and reduce battery life.
Battery pack maintenance is critical. The battery should not be stored or charged outside specified temperature limits, nor exposed to fire, discarded, or destroyed. Local laws and regulations regarding battery recycling and disposal should be followed. To maintain battery health, it should be charged after each ride and not allowed to drain completely. Optimal battery range and performance are achieved at room temperature (70°F [22°C]). Performance and range can significantly decrease in temperatures below 32°F (0°C). A fully charged battery typically retains its charge for 120-180 days, while a 30% charged battery retains it for approximately 30 days. Complete battery drainage can cause permanent damage, which is not covered by the Limited Warranty. Users are warned against disassembling the battery due to the risk of fire and the absence of user-serviceable parts.
Calibration is necessary if the Segway Drift W1 moves forward or backward on its own in Balance Mode on flat ground. To calibrate, the device should be placed upside down on flat ground and powered on. Once the wheel starts spinning, the device should be powered off to complete the calibration. During this process, hands must be kept away from the spinning wheel to prevent injury.
