Overview

The SERCOM DM1000 is a DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem designed for high-speed internet access. This basic user guide provides essential information for installation, operation, and understanding the device's status.

Function Description:

The DM1000 serves as a bridge between your home network and your Internet Service Provider (ISP) via a coaxial cable connection. It translates signals from the cable network into data that your computers and other network-enabled devices can understand, enabling internet access. As a DOCSIS 3.1 modem, it supports the latest cable internet standard, offering significantly faster download and upload speeds compared to previous DOCSIS versions. It is backward compatible with DOCSIS 3.0, 2.0, 1.1, and 1.0, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of cable network infrastructures. The modem features an Ethernet port for connecting to a computer, gaming console, or a wireless access point, facilitating local network connectivity.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: DM1000
  • DOCSIS Standard: DOCSIS 3.1, backward compatible with 3.0, 2.0, 1.1, 1.0.
  • Ethernet Speed: Supports 10/100/1000/2500 Mbps Ethernet, allowing for high-speed wired connections.
  • Power Adapter: Requires a 100-240V, 50-60Hz power adapter. It is crucial to use only the supplied power adapter for proper operation and safety. The power adapter must be keyed for proper polarization and fully inserted.
  • Operating Temperature: Maximum operating temperature of 104°F (40°C).
  • Operating Altitude: Maximum operating altitude of 5000 m (16,404 ft.).
  • Example Cable RF MAC Address: 00:71:CC:8E:54:C7 (Note: This is an example; actual MAC address will vary per device).
  • Firmware Version: 7.2.xxxx (Specific version may vary).
  • Web User Interface Access: http://192.168.100.1
  • Advanced Web Interface Login:
    • Login: technician
    • Password: sercommdocsis
  • Private Management MIB: Provided separately.

Usage Features:

  • Easy Installation: The modem is designed for straightforward installation. Users connect a coaxial cable from the wall outlet to the modem's "Cable" port, an Ethernet cable from the modem's "LAN" port to a computer or router, and then connect the power adapter.
  • LED Indicators: The front panel features several LED indicators to provide visual feedback on the modem's status:
    • Power (Green): Flashing between On Green and Off during power-up; On Green during normal operation.
    • DS (Downstream) (Green): Flashing between On Green and Off when acquiring a US channel; On Green when the device has a DS signal; LED Off in standby mode.
    • US (Upstream) (Green): Flashing between On Green and Off when acquiring a US channel; On Green when the device has a US signal; LED Off in standby mode.
    • Online (Green): Flashing between On Green and Off when establishing IP connectivity; On Green during normal operation; LED Off in standby mode.
    • LAN (Green/Orange): On Green when an Ethernet device is connected at 10/100/1000 Mbps speeds; On Orange when an Ethernet device is connected at 2500 Mbps speeds; Flashing Green or Orange when data is being passed between the modem and the connected device; LED Off when no CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) is connected.
  • Web Interface: The modem offers a web-based user interface accessible via a standard web browser at http://192.168.100.1.
    • Basic Information (No Login Required): Provides access to "Status," "Version," "Event Log," and "Provisioning Status." The "Status" page displays RF Parameters for downstream channels, including DCID Freq, Power, SNR, Modulation, Octets, Correcteds, and Uncorrectables. The "Version" page shows hardware information (System, Serial Number) and firmware build and revisions (Firmware Name, Firmware Build Time). The "Event Log" lists DOCSIS (CM) Events with Date Time, Event ID, Event Level, and Description. The "Provisioning Status" page shows the status of various provisioning steps like Downstream Scanning, Downstream Locked, Upstream Ranging, DHCP, TFTP, Data Reg Complete, TOD State, BPI State, and DHCP Attempts.
    • Advanced Information (Login Required): To access advanced settings, users must log in with the username "technician" and password "sercommdocsis." This section includes "Product" (showing Provisioning Status, IP and MAC Address Parameters for LAN and WAN, and Product Type details like Hardware Info, Ethernet, Ethernet Phy Type, and Router status), "DHCP" (displaying Software Version and Cable Modem DHCP Parameters for IPv4 and IPv6), "Config Params" (showing Cable Modem Config File and Common Cable Modem Config Parameters like NetworkAccess, UpgradeServer, MaxCpeAllowed, and PrivacyEnable), and "Spectrum" (providing a graphical representation of the modem's spectrum, with options to scan, set center frequency and width, and update continuously).
  • Grounding: The coaxial cable must be grounded to the earth as close as practical to the building entrance, adhering to ANSI/NFPA 70 and NEC section 820.93 standards.
  • Environmental Considerations: Install the device in a location that does not exceed the maximum operating temperature and within the specified altitude limits.

Maintenance Features:

  • Factory Reset: The modem includes a "Reset" button on the rear panel. Pressing and holding this button for greater than 5 seconds will initiate a factory reset, restoring the device to its default settings. This can be useful for troubleshooting or reconfiguring the modem.
  • Firmware Updates: The web interface provides information on the firmware version, indicating that firmware updates may be managed through the system, though specific update procedures are not detailed in this basic guide.
  • Event Logging: The "Event Log" in the web interface records system events, which can be helpful for diagnosing issues or monitoring modem performance.
  • Disconnecting the Device: In case of damage or abnormality, the power adapter should be disconnected from the AC wall outlet immediately to prevent further issues or hazards.
  • Cable Management: When connecting coaxial cables, avoid bending or over-tightening them to prevent strain on the connector and potential damage. If connecting both a modem and a television to the same wall outlet, a cable line splitter (not included) is required.
