The Serfas Dart 500W is an e-bike designed for recreational use, offering pedal-assist and throttle-on-demand functionalities. This owner's manual provides comprehensive information on its operation, maintenance, and safety guidelines.
Function Description
The Dart 500W is an electric bicycle equipped with a 48V 500W constant / 650W peak brushless hub drive motor, providing assistance for easier riding. It features a step-through frame design, making it accessible for a wider range of riders. The e-bike's display and controls allow riders to monitor speed, battery level, trip distance, and adjust pedal assist levels. It also includes a walk assist function for easier maneuvering when not riding. The throttle function is programmed for continuous use above 2mph, engaging on demand once the speed threshold is met.

Usage Features
The e-bike's display and controls are central to its operation. The power button turns the display on/off. An "Adjust" button allows riders to modify the assist power level during rides and in settings. A "Mode" button switches between function interfaces and enters parameter setting. A dedicated "Walk assist" button activates the walk assist function, providing motor output at a set speed for easier pushing. The display shows battery charge, current speed, trip distance, odometer, range, average speed, and max speed. An error indicator displays error codes for troubleshooting. Settings allow adjustment of units (MPH/KMH), backlight level, speed limit, and wheel size. Lights can be turned on/off by long-pressing the "Adjust up" button.
Safety Guidelines for Usage:
- General Safety: Bicycling involves inherent risks; riders assume responsibility for safe practices. Do not operate under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any impairing substance. The Dart 500W is designed for persons 18 years and older with appropriate physical and mental capacity.
- Road Awareness: Always be a defensive rider, assuming others may not see you. Be aware of surroundings, including motor vehicles, obstacles, pedestrians, children, animals, and road imperfections. Observe warning, hazard, and yield signs. Ride in designated bike lanes and in the direction of traffic. Acknowledge and stop at all stop signs and traffic lights, looking both ways at intersections. Use hand signals for turning and stopping.
- Prohibited Actions: Do not ride with headphones, hold onto other vehicles, weave through traffic, or make unexpected moves.
- Wet Weather: Avoid riding in heavy rain or streams. Never immerse or submerge the e-bike. If riding in wet weather, decrease speed, brake earlier, and enhance visibility with reflective clothing and approved safety lights. Road hazards are more difficult to see when wet.
- Night Riding: Exercise extreme caution. Cyclists are difficult to see in the dark. Use required lighting and reflective gear. Reflectors are designed to reflect car and street lights.
- Mandatory Equipment: Ensure all required and recommended safety equipment is used, and local laws are followed.
- Component Changes: Using non-original components or spare parts can jeopardize safety, void warranty, and may cause the e-bike to not conform to laws.
- Pre-Ride Safety Check: Always check the bike's condition before each ride. Consult a certified mechanic if unsure. Ensure brakes are free from damage, properly secured, and working correctly.
- Battery Safety: Ensure the battery is adequately charged, properly locked onto the frame, and unplugged before riding. Do not operate the electrical system if the battery is removed. Ensure a "CLICK" sound when installing the battery.
- Charger Safety: Use the charger indoors in a cool, dry, ventilated area on a stable, hard surface. Avoid contact with liquids, dirt, debris, or metal objects. Do not cover the charger. Store away from children. Only use the charger supplied by Serfas Bikes or one designed for your specific bike. Do not open or modify the charger. Unplug by pulling on plastic plugs, not cables. Discontinue use if the charger overheats or emits strange smells.
Maintenance Features
- Cleaning: Use a damp cloth and gentle dish soap. Do not use a pressure washer or sprayer.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a light lubricant to moving parts, including chain links, derailleur pivots, and shifter cable inner wire.
- Corrosion Prevention: If riding in wet/humid environments, clean and dry electrical connections and apply an anti-corrosive.
- Professional Tune-ups: All bicycles require periodic tune-ups or adjustments by a professional. An annual "check-up" is beneficial, with service frequency depending on usage.
- Tire Pressure: Keep tires inflated to recommended pressure (30-50 PSI / 2.0-3.5 BAR / 200-350 KPA) and check weekly.
- Drivetrain: Clean the drivetrain and lubricate the chain monthly.
Storing Your Bike
- Battery Storage: For extended storage, fully charge the battery, then remove it from the bike. This puts the battery into a low-voltage state for long-term storage. Store the battery separately.
- Environment: Store both the bike and battery in a cool, dry place. Avoid extreme hot and cold temperatures. Generally, if the environment is comfortable for humans, it's suitable for storage.
- Protection: Store the bike away from sources of heat, UV light, and ozone, which can prematurely age rubber tires and tubes.
- Tire Maintenance: Bicycle tubes slowly lose air over time. Regularly top off tires to maintain proper pressure during storage to prevent complete deflation.
Warranty Policy
Serfas offers a Limited Lifetime Warranty. The specific warranty is governed by the law of the state or country of purchase and applies only to bicycles bought from Authorized Serfas Retailers.
- Frames and Forks: Serfas frames (steel or aluminum, including Dart e-bikes) are warranted against manufacturing defects in materials and/or workmanship for 2 years to the original owner.
- Components: All other components, frame fixtures, and finishes (paint and decals) are warranted against manufacturing defects for one year from the original retail purchase date. Forks not made by Serfas (e.g., Rockshox) are covered by their manufacturer's warranty. Stripped threads due to user error are not covered.
- Registration: To qualify for warranty coverage, the bike must be registered within 1 month of purchase at www.serfas.com/warranty-form.
