The Shark S2901 series Multi-Function Steam Pocket Mop Lite is a versatile cleaning appliance designed for household use, offering both steam mopping and handheld steaming capabilities. Its primary function is to clean and sanitize hard floor surfaces that can withstand high heat and moisture, as well as various other surfaces with its removable handheld steamer and accessories.
Function Description:
The device operates by heating water to produce steam, which is then used to clean and sanitize surfaces without the need for harsh chemicals. It features a main mop unit for floor cleaning and a detachable handheld steamer for more targeted cleaning tasks. The steam mop is designed to loosen, lift, and lock in dirt and grime, providing a hygienic clean.
Usage Features:
Steam Mop Mode:
- Assembly: The mop handle easily inserts into the handheld steamer until it clicks into place. Users select either a Rectangle or Triangle mop head and attach the appropriate cleaning pocket by fitting one side first, then pulling the pocket over the head using the loop, and finally securing it with quick fasteners. The mop head then snaps into the mop body, aligning grooves until it latches. A release button allows for easy removal or changing of mop heads.
- Water Filling: To fill the water tank, the cap is turned counter-clockwise and removed. The included filling flask is used to pour water into the tank, ensuring not to overfill. The cap is then replaced and tightened. Distilled water is recommended to prolong the life of the steam mop, especially in hard water areas.
- Operation: Before use, it's crucial to ensure a cleaning pocket is attached and the water tank is filled. The unit should be plugged into an electrical outlet, and the power cord unwrapped by pulling and twisting the quick release cord holder. The power button is pressed to turn the unit on. For first-time use, it might take slightly longer than the usual 30 seconds to start steaming. Floors should be swept or vacuumed prior to steam cleaning. The mop is then moved in a forward and backward motion to clean.
- Cleaning Pockets: The cleaning pockets have a shaggy side for lifting and locking dirt and debris, and a scrubbing side for tackling tough stains.
- Refilling: When the water tank is empty, the steam production will stop. The tank can be refilled at any time, provided the mop is unplugged from the outlet.
- Carpet Glider: For light steaming, grooming, and freshening of carpets and area rugs, the Carpet Glider can be used with the Rectangular Head. The mop head with the cleaning pocket attached is simply placed into the glider, and then moved back and forth across the carpet section. It's important to note that the steam mop is not designed to clean carpeting or area rugs, only to groom and freshen them.
- Surface Compatibility: The steam mop is designed for hard floor surfaces that can withstand high heat. It should not be used on unsealed wood or unglazed ceramic floors. On surfaces treated with wax or no-wax floors, the heat and steam may remove the sheen. Testing an isolated area is always recommended, and users should check their floor manufacturer's use and care instructions.
- Safety Precautions: Never use the mop without a cleaning pocket attached or without water in the tank. Avoid leaving the appliance unattended when plugged in. Always unplug the power cord when not in use, before servicing, or when changing mop heads or cleaning pockets. Allow 2-3 minutes for the steam mop to cool before switching mop heads or cleaning pockets. Never leave the steam mop in one spot on any surface with a damp or wet cleaning pocket attached, as this can damage floors.
Removable Handheld Steamer Mode:
- Detachment: To use the handheld steamer, the handle release button is pressed and held while pulling out the handle. The mop head release button is then pressed, and the mop head is pulled off.
- Accessory Hose: The Accessory Hose is attached to the handheld steamer by snapping it into the main nozzle. Users should not press the power button while attaching or removing the hose. The Accessory Hose should not be used without cleaning tools attached.
- Cleaning Tools: A variety of accessories can be attached to the Accessory Hose for different cleaning tasks:
- Concentrator Nozzle: Creates a direct steam spray for cleaning and sanitizing hard-to-reach nooks, crannies, and tight places where germs may build up. It helps loosen and dislodge compact dirt. The nozzle snaps onto the Accessory Hose. For effective cleaning, hold the nozzle 1-2 inches away from the surface.
- Grout Scrubber/Detail Brush: Designed for removing stubborn messes in hard-to-reach nooks, corners, and grout. These snap into the handle of the Accessory Hose.
- Window Squeegee: Used for cleaning windows with vapor jet, moving from top to bottom with lateral strokes to avoid streaks. It snaps into the handle of the Accessory Hose. Users should avoid sudden temperature changes to prevent window breakage.
- Flat Scrubber Tool with All-Purpose Scrubber Bonnet: Ideal for cleaning large and flat surfaces like countertops, tabletops, walls, mirrors, windows, stairs, and shelves. The super absorbent microfibre bonnet loosens, lifts, and locks in dirt and grime. The bonnet is placed exterior side down, and the Flat Scrubber Tool is inserted into the top portion and pulled over the back edge. The tool then snaps into the Accessory Hose. It must always be used with the bonnet attached.
- Cylinder Wand with All-Purpose or Duster Pocket: Provides controlled cleaning and reaches into narrow areas and around curved/contoured surfaces for steam dusting and fine cleaning (e.g., sinks, bathtubs, refrigerator doors, window sills, door jams, vents, banisters, furniture). The pocket slides over the wand frame, and the cinch is tightened by pulling the elastic band and sliding the locking bean. The wand then snaps into the Accessory Hose. It must always be used with a pocket attached.
- Wedge Cleaning Tool with All-Purpose Pocket: Designed for cleaning a variety of large and flat, horizontal and vertical surfaces. Its broad cleaning sides and microfiber fabrics loosen, lift, and lock in dirt. The wedge tip and squared edges reach into tight areas, and concave sides wrap around fixtures like sinks, faucets, and door knobs. The pocket slides over the tool frame, and the cinch is tightened. The tool then snaps into the Accessory Hose. It must always be used with a pocket attached.
- Handheld Steamer Operation: After attaching the desired tool, press the power button to start steaming. When cleaning finished wood surfaces, use broad, continuous cleaning strokes to prevent surface damage. Avoid focusing steam or allowing tools to sit in one spot for extended periods.
- Accessory Removal: To remove accessories, press and hold down the Accessory release button and slide out the tool or hose. It is recommended to turn the unit off before attaching or removing accessories.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning the Steam Mop: Unplug the power cord and clean the steam mop with a dry or damp cloth. Do not pour water or use alcohol, benzene, or paint thinner on the unit.
- Cleaning Pockets: Cleaning pockets should be washed separately from other fabrics to avoid lint pick-up. Only liquid detergent (no powder detergent) should be used, and fabric softeners or bleach should be avoided. Pockets should be line-dried and not tumble-dried. If loose threads appear, carefully cut them with scissors; do not pull or cut at the base. Allow the cleaning pocket to cool for 2-3 minutes before removing it from the unit to avoid scalding.
- Decalcifying the Steam Mop: To prevent mineral deposits from building up and impacting performance, using distilled water is highly recommended.
- Cleaning the Nozzle: If a decrease in steam output is noticed, mineral deposits may need to be removed from the nozzles. Unplug the cleaner from the electrical outlet. Use a small diameter stiff metal wire (like a straightened paperclip) to carefully insert into the nozzle orifice and move it back and forth to remove deposits. After cleaning, plug the appliance back in and test the steam output.
- Storage: After use, press the power button to turn off the unit, unplug the cord, and place the mop in an upright position. Allow 2-3 minutes for the unit to cool. Reattach the handle to the handheld steamer if it was removed. Remove cleaning pockets by releasing fasteners and using the loop, avoiding contact with hot pockets or dirt. Empty the water tank over a sink and replace the cap. For hanging storage, remove the mop head (after it has cooled and steam has been released) and hang the unit on a large hook.
