Overview

The Shark Performance Lift-Away Upright Vacuum, UV700 Series, is a versatile cleaning appliance designed for comprehensive whole-home cleaning. Its primary function is to effectively remove dirt, dust, and debris from various floor types and surfaces, offering both upright and portable Lift-Away operation.

Function Description:

This upright vacuum cleaner is engineered for powerful suction and efficient dirt pickup. It features a motorized floor nozzle that works in conjunction with a self-cleaning brushroll, designed to actively remove hair wrap during vacuuming. The DuoClean technology incorporates both a brushroll and a soft roller, allowing it to tackle fine dust and large debris on hard floors while also deep cleaning carpets. The Lift-Away feature transforms the upright vacuum into a portable pod, enabling easy cleaning of stairs, upholstery, and hard-to-reach areas with specialized accessories. Suction control is variable, allowing users to adjust the suction power based on the cleaning task and surface type.

Usage Features:

The vacuum offers two main cleaning modes: Upright and Lift-Away.

  1. Upright Mode: In this mode, the vacuum operates as a traditional upright cleaner, ideal for cleaning large floor areas. Users can select between "Hard Floor" and "Carpet" settings using the Power/Surface Selector button. The "Hard Floor" setting is designed for gentle cleaning on bare floors, where the brushrolls do not spin unless the wand is reclined. The "Carpet" setting activates faster-spinning brushrolls for deeper cleaning of carpets. To engage the brushrolls, the user simply turns on the power, steps on the floor nozzle, and tilts the handle back.
  2. Lift-Away Operation: This feature allows the user to detach the vacuum pod from the floor nozzle, creating a lightweight, portable vacuum. This is particularly useful for cleaning above-floor areas, stairs, and tight spaces. In Lift-Away mode, the handle or wand can be detached from the pod, and various cleaning accessories can be attached for specialized tasks.
    • Above-Floor-Handle: Detaching the handle from the wand allows for precise cleaning with accessories.
    • Above-Floor-Wand: Detaching the wand from the pod provides extended reach for high-up areas or under furniture.
    • Lift-Away-Handle: Detaching both the wand from the pod and the handle from the wand offers maximum portability and maneuverability for handheld cleaning.
    • Lift-Away-Wand: Detaching the wand from the pod allows for extended reach while still utilizing the portable pod.

The vacuum includes a Suction Control Collar, which allows users to adjust suction power. Sliding it to "MIN" reduces suction, making it easier to maneuver on carpets, while sliding it to "MAX" increases suction for stubborn messes on bare floors.

A Brushroll Indicator Light provides visual feedback on the brushroll's status:

  • Solid Green: Indicates that both the brushroll and Soft Roller are spinning and working correctly.
  • Solid Red: Signals a jam in the brushroll area, requiring the user to turn off, unplug, and clear any blockages.
  • Flashing Red: Suggests a blockage and potential overheating, prompting the user to turn off, unplug, clear blockages, and allow the vacuum to cool down before restarting.
  • Solid Green with Headlights Flashing: Indicates that the brushroll garage lid is not properly closed, requiring a firm push on both sides until it clicks into place.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and longevity of the vacuum.

  1. Emptying the Dust Cup: The dust cup should be emptied regularly. To do this, the user slides up the buttons on both sides of the handle, tilts the dust cup, and lifts it to remove. Debris is emptied by pressing a lower release button, which opens the bottom of the dust cup. Collected debris from the lint screen can be removed by pressing the top release button, lifting the handle, and gently brushing the screen clean. Reinstallation involves placing the bottom of the dust cup into the pod and tilting it until it clicks into place.
  2. Cleaning and Replacing Filters: Filters need to be rinsed and replaced periodically to maintain suction power.
    • Pre-Motor Filters: These should be cleaned every 3 months. They are accessed by removing the dust cup and lifting them out.
    • HEPA Filter: This filter should be cleaned every year. It is located at the bottom of the filter cover, accessed by pressing the "Filter Access" button. The cover tilts and lifts out, allowing the HEPA filter to be removed. Filters should be rinsed with cold water only and allowed to air-dry completely for at least 24 hours before reinstallation to prevent damage to electrical parts. Soap should not be used when cleaning filters.
  3. Self-Cleaning Brushroll Technology: While designed to actively remove hair wrap, occasional checks for blockages or objects caught in the brushroll are recommended, especially if a noise change occurs or a hard/sharp object is run over. To access the brushroll garage, the user slides both release buttons on the floor nozzle away, lifts the lid, and clears any debris. To close, the lid's tabs are inserted into the nozzle slots, and both sides are pushed down until it clicks securely.
  4. Cleaning the Soft Roller: The Soft Roller can be removed by lifting it out by its pull tab. It can be wiped clean with a dry towel or hand-washed with water and air-dried completely for at least 24 hours. Reinstallation involves inserting it under the rubber bumper in the front of the nozzle until it clicks into place.
  5. Checking for Blockages: Regular checks for blockages in the hose, wand, nozzle, and accessories are essential. This involves detaching components like the hose from the vacuum pod, the wand from the floor nozzle and handle, and the handle from the wand and hose from the vacuum pod, then inspecting all openings for obstructions.

The vacuum is designed with user safety in mind, featuring a polarized plug and warnings against improper use, such as picking up liquids or sharp objects. Troubleshooting tips are provided for common issues like loss of suction, difficulty maneuvering, brushrolls not spinning, or the vacuum turning off due to overheating.
