Do you have a question about the Sharp 50BJ3K and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes a Sharp television, focusing on its setup, connectivity, and features.

Initial Setup and Stand Installation

The television requires initial assembly, specifically the attachment of its stand. To do this, the TV panel should be placed face down on a flat, clean surface to prevent damage. The stand feet are designed to be longer at the front of the TV and shorter at the back. Four screws are provided to secure the stand feet to the underside of the TV. A cross-head screwdriver is required for this step.

Connecting to Power and Aerial

Once the stand is attached, the TV can be connected to a power socket. For users wishing to access Freeview/Saorview channels, an outdoor digital TV aerial must be connected to the RF input on the TV. If these channels are not desired, this step can be skipped.

Powering On the TV

The television can be powered on using the TV control stick located on the TV set. Alternatively, the supplied remote control can be used. Before using the remote, batteries must be inserted. The standby button on the remote will power on the TV.

Wall Mounting

For wall mounting, the four screws supplied in the wall mounting holes on the rear of the TV must first be removed. The wall mount can then be attached to these holes. The wall mounting bracket should be installed according to the manufacturer's instructions. Spacers, if shown in illustrations, are not applicable to all installations.

First-Time Installation Wizard

Upon first power-on, the TV enters a First Time Installation mode. This mode can also be restarted by restoring the set to default settings via the 'About TV' Menu.

  1. Introduction: This screen welcomes the user and prompts them to begin setup.
  2. Language Selection: Users can select their preferred on-screen display language. This choice affects the language of menus and associated information. This setting can be changed later via Settings > System Menu > Language.
  3. Country Selection: The correct country flag must be selected to ensure the TV installs functions applicable to that region.
  4. Environment of Use: Users choose between 'Home Mode' and other options. 'Home Mode' is a power-saving mode that reduces energy consumption by up to 25% by lowering power to the LED/LCD panel. This setting can be adjusted in the picture mode settings. In 'Home Mode', the TV will automatically switch off after 4 hours if no buttons are pressed on the TV or remote. This auto-standby feature can be modified via Settings > Time > Auto Standby.
  5. Network Setup: The TV can be connected to a broadband router or wireless network to enable Smart functions. Connecting via an Ethernet cable is recommended and will skip this step.
  6. Set Up Netflix: If a Netflix account is available, it can be set up during this stage. After validation, the installation process continues.
  7. Default Source Selection: Users select their most frequently used source. If 'Digital TV (Freeview)' is chosen, the TV will automatically tune in and default to Freeview. If another source is selected, the TV will not tune in at this stage but will default to that input. Tuning can be performed later via Settings > Channels.
  8. Tune in Channels: Users are prompted to install terrestrial channels. An outdoor aerial must be connected to the "RF IN" socket. Selecting "Next" initiates the automatic tuning process.
  9. Support Advice: Information regarding support is displayed briefly. Tuning continues, and a progress bar shows the number of channels found. If signals from multiple transmitters are detected, users will be asked to select primary and secondary regions.

The television offers a range of connectivity options:

Freeview HD channels are placed in positions above 100 (e.g., BBC1 HD on 101).

Microsoft PlayReady™

The product incorporates Microsoft PlayReady™ technology to protect intellectual property, including copyrighted content. This device uses PlayReady technology to access protected content. If the device fails to enforce content usage restrictions, content owners may require Microsoft to revoke its ability to consume PlayReady-protected content. Revocation does not affect unprotected content or content protected by other technologies. Users may be required to upgrade PlayReady to access content. Declining an upgrade will prevent access to content requiring it.

Maintenance

It is crucial to save the original box and packaging. In the event of a warranty/service repair or support, the TV must be packaged correctly, and the original box/packaging is the safest way to do this. Warranty/service cannot be performed if the item cannot be packaged correctly.
