Overview

This is an operation manual for the SHARP DW-E16FA Air Purifying Dehumidifier, a versatile appliance designed for room air purifying, laundry deodorizing, quick drying, and dehumidifying.

Function Description

The SHARP DW-E16FA is a powerful dehumidifier equipped with a high concentration of Plasmacluster ions, a high-performance HEPA filter, and a deodorizing active carbon filter. It operates on the principle of dehumidification, where damp air is drawn into the unit, cooled to condense moisture into water droplets, and then heated before being released as dry air. This process effectively removes moisture from the air, helping to prevent dew formation, dry tatami mats or closets, and maintain a comfortable humidity level.

The device offers several key functions:

  • Laundry Drying: Utilizes wide-angle automatic swing louvers for even drying of laundry. It also deodorizes room-dried laundry with a high concentration of Plasmacluster ions.
  • Dehumidifying: Adjusts the dehumidification amount to achieve the proper humidity level according to room temperature. It has a dehumidification capacity of 8.8L/day and supports continuous drainage with a 3.0L tank.
  • Deodorizing: Specifically designed to deodorize laundry using Plasmacluster ions.
  • Air Purifying: Collects dust, pollen, and unpleasant odors using its HEPA filter and deodorizing active carbon filter. The HEPA filter is highly effective, collecting 99.97% or more of 0.3µm particles and 99% of 0.1-2.5µm particles.

Usage Features

The DW-E16FA offers user-friendly controls and features:

  • Control Panel: Features an ODOR Indicator Light (green, orange, red) to show room air cleanness, a CURRENT HUMIDITY display (estimate), Plasmacluster Ion ON/OFF button, FAN SPEED button, POWER/MODE button, OFF TIMER button, OFF button, V.SWING button, CHILD LOCK indicator light, Tank FULL indicator light, and various indicator lights for fan speed, power/mode, and OFF TIMER.
  • Operation Modes:
    • Laundry Drying: Users can select HIGH, MED, LOW, or AUTO fan speeds. The AUTO mode for laundry drying stops automatically when humidity falls below 60% or after 3 hours.
    • Dehumidifying: Offers HIGH, MED, LOW, and AUTO fan speeds. The AUTO mode monitors room conditions using an odor, temperature, and humidity sensor to automatically adjust fan speed and dehumidification amount.
    • Deodorizing: Operates at HIGH fan speed only, with the compressor off (air flow only). Plasmacluster Ion is automatically ON in this mode.
    • Air Purifying: Offers HIGH, MED, LOW, and AUTO fan speeds. The AUTO mode uses the odor sensor to adjust fan speed for continuous air purification.
  • Easy-to-Use Functions:
    • Vertical Swing Louver: Allows users to select desired louver angles (UP, DOWN, WIDE) for optimal air distribution.
    • OFF TIMER: Can be set for 2, 4, or 6 hours to automatically stop operation.
    • Plasmacluster Ion ON/OFF: Allows manual control of the Plasmacluster ion generator, though it automatically turns ON during deodorizing operations.
    • Child Lock: Prevents unintended operation by children.
    • Notification Sound OFF: Mutes notification sounds for tank full, OFF TIMER end, or Auto Off function end, useful for night-time operation.
  • Auto Off Function: The unit automatically stops after 12 hours of continuous operation in Laundry Drying (HIGH/MED/LOW) or Dehumidifying modes as a safety measure. This function can be disabled for continuous operation, such as during continuous drainage.
  • Water Tank: Has a capacity of approximately 3.0L. When full, the unit automatically stops operation (except during deodorizing or air purifying).
  • Continuous Drainage: Allows for continuous operation by connecting a commercially available hose (inner diameter 15mm) to the drain outlet, bypassing the water tank capacity limit.
  • Safety Precautions: Includes warnings against damaging the power cord, inserting objects into air outlets, disassembling the unit, using flammable materials nearby, and operating in unsafe conditions. It also provides guidance for handling exceptions like burnt smells.
  • Installation: Requires a level, stable surface with adequate clearance around the unit (50cm or more above, 20cm or more behind, 20cm or more on sides, 50cm or more in front) for proper ventilation and to prevent overheating or malfunction. Avoid direct sunlight, areas with high salt/sulfide gas, machine oil, steam, or oily smokes. Do not use near products containing fluororesin or silicone, as these can inhibit Plasmacluster ion generation.
  • Moving the Unit: Before moving, stop operation, dispose of water in the tank, and bundle the power cord. The unit should be moved by holding the handles on both sides and only moves transversely on its casters.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and longevity of the dehumidifier:

  • Filter Installation (First Use): Before first use, the HEPA filter and Active Carbon Deodorizing filter must be removed from their plastic bags and installed. The HEPA filter (thicker one) should be installed first with the side marked with a tag facing front.
  • Internal Drying: After laundry drying or dehumidifying, it is recommended to run the internal drying operation (by selecting DEODORIZE mode and setting the OFF TIMER to 2 hours) to prevent mold and odor from water drops adhering to the cooler inside the main unit.
  • HEPA Filter Maintenance:
    • Cleaning: Gently vacuum the side with the tag. Never wash with water or apply excessive force, as the filter can be easily damaged.
    • Replacement: The HEPA filter (Model: FZ-E16AHF) has a service life of approximately 5 years, but may need replacement sooner if strong odors persist.
  • Active Carbon Deodorizing Filter Maintenance:
    • Cleaning: Gently vacuum both sides. Never wash with water or dry in the sun. Be careful not to damage the filter.
    • Replacement: The Active Carbon Deodorizing filter (Model: FZ-E16ADF) also has a service life of approximately 5 years, but may require earlier replacement if strong odors are present.
  • Rear Panel (Pre-filter) Maintenance:
    • Cleaning: Remove dust with a vacuum cleaner every two weeks. For heavy dust, soak a soft cloth in lukewarm water (40°C or lower) or mild detergent to wipe dirt off.
  • Water Tank Maintenance:
    • Cleaning: Dispose of water and take off the tank lid. Wash the inside of the tank with a dishwashing sponge and mild detergent (if necessary) once a week. Ensure the float is securely attached when reassembling.
  • Main Unit Maintenance:
    • Cleaning: Wipe with a soft cloth. For heavy dust, use a soft cloth soaked in lukewarm water or mild detergent. Clean the casters regularly.
  • Sensor Maintenance (Odor Sensor): Remove the rear panel and filters, then clean dirt from the sensor with a cleaner.
  • Long-Term Storage: When not using the unit for a long period, conduct internal drying operation, dispose of tank water, clean the main unit, and store in a dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • General Cleaning: Do not use thinner, benzene, alcohol, oven cleaner, cleanser, bleach, spray cleanser, synthetic detergent (alkaline), or steel wool for cleaning, as these can damage the unit or filter surfaces.
