Overview

This document provides user instructions for the Protex™ Particulate Respirator N95, specifically for models SR9520, SR9520S, SR9525, SR9525S, SR9530, and SR9530S.

Function Description

The Protex™ Particulate Respirator N95 is designed to help reduce the inhalation of certain airborne biological particles. It is intended for occupational use to filter particles generated from activities such as painting, construction, and other heavy industries, as well as liquid or non-oil-based particles from sprays that do not emit oil aerosols or vapors. This respirator is not designed to supply oxygen.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Storage Temperature Range: -20°C (-4°F) to +30°C (86°F).
  • Maximum Relative Humidity for Storage: <80% RH.
  • Shelf Life: 5 years when stored in original packaging within specified climatic conditions.

Usage Features

  • Fitting Instructions:
    1. Hold the respirator with the nosepiece at your fingertips, cupping it in your hand with headbands hanging below.
    2. Position the respirator under your chin with the nosepiece up.
    3. Place the top strap over the top back of your head.
    4. Position the bottom strap around the neck and below the ears; do not crisscross straps.
    5. Mold the metal nose clip to the shape of your nose by placing fingertips from both hands at the top and sliding them down both sides of the metal strip.
  • User Seal Check: After fitting, place both hands over the respirator. Take a quick breath in to check for a tight seal. Then, exhale completely with both hands over the respirator. If leakage is felt, the seal is not proper, and the fitting instructions should be repeated. If a proper seal cannot be achieved, do not enter contaminated areas.
  • Removal Instructions:
    1. DO NOT TOUCH the front of the respirator, as it may be contaminated.
    2. Remove by pulling the bottom strap over the back of the head, then the top strap, without touching the respirator itself.
    3. Discard the N95 respirator safely by placing it in a plastic bag and then in the trash.
    4. Wash hands after handling the used respirator.
  • Limitations of Use:
    • Not for use with oil-based aerosols, gases, vapors, sandblasting, lead, or asbestos.
    • Not for use in areas where contaminant levels are unknown or pose an immediate danger to health.
    • Not for use where particulate concentrations exceed U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Permissible Exposure Limits for specific substances.
    • If breathing becomes difficult, or other distress occurs, the user must immediately leave the contaminated area and contact a supervisor.
    • Users with chronic respiratory, cardiac, or other medical conditions should consult a healthcare provider before use, as the N95 respirator can make breathing more difficult.

Maintenance Features

  • Storage: Store respirators in their original packaging within the specified temperature and humidity conditions. Use respirators before the "use by" date indicated on the packaging.
  • Inspection: Inspect the respirator before each use. Check all parts (material, headbands, nose foam, nose clip) for signs of damage. Immediately dispose of and replace the respirator if any parts are damaged or missing.
  • Disposal: Dispose of used product in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Prohibited Actions: Do not alter, wash, abuse, or misuse the respirator, as this will compromise its efficacy.
  • Replacement: Replace the respirator if it becomes damaged or soiled, or if breathing becomes difficult.

Important Safety Information

  • Failure to wear the respirator during all times of exposure, or failure to follow all instructions and limitations, may result in sickness or death.
  • Before occupational use, a written respiratory protection program must be implemented, meeting all local government requirements (e.g., OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard 29 CFR 1910.134 in the United States, or CSA requirements in Canada). This includes medical evaluation, training, and fit testing.
  • This respirator helps reduce the inhalation of certain airborne biological particles but does not eliminate the risk of contracting disease, illness, or infection.
