The RUGGEDCOM RMC8388 is a rugged, small form factor time converter designed to operate in electrically harsh environments with widely varying climatic and environmental conditions, such as those found in utility substations. It is verified to withstand extreme temperatures, vibrations, and shock, and offers exceptional reliability.
Function Description:
The RUGGEDCOM RMC8388 provides time synchronization via Ethernet using the Precision Time Protocol (PTP) and Network Time Protocol (NTP), and can synchronize with an external IRIG-B source. It features BNC ports for AM IN, OUT, and TTL OUT, along with a SYNC LED to indicate when synchronization has been achieved.
There are three versions of the RUGGEDCOM RMC8388 with different time synchronization capabilities:
- Versions A and B: Designed as slave devices.
- Version C: Designed as a master device.
Supported time synchronization sources include:
- NTP (Network Time Protocol): Supported by all versions, suitable for systems requiring accuracy in the order of 1 ms.
- IEEE 1588 v2: Provides networked, packet-based time synchronization. The RUGGEDCOM RMC8388 supports PTP v2 (IEEE 1588-2008 standard) and operates in ordinary clock mode (configurable as Grandmaster Clock or Slave Clock). Every Ethernet port supports IEEE 1588 v2.
- IRIG-B IN: Supported only by the C variant, inputs IRIG Standard 200-04 compliant signals from synchronized external devices.
