lowing the tent seams between points A and C, and B and D
attach all of the Swift Clips
to their corresponding tent poles
(Swift Clips are the Clips without cords). Passing the arched
pole over the two long poles, place its ends into the grommets
at points F and G. Once the arched pole is in place; hook the
Clip-Locs at points H and I, with the open gate of the clip
pointing towards the rear of the tent. Now attach the cord at
points H, I & E, by wrapping the cord in the direction cross-
ing the open gate of the Clip-Loc. Wrap the cord around the
pole intersection two to four times, depending on desired firm-
ness, then slide the cord into the groove on the back-side of
the clip to hold it taut (Figure 3).
Fly Sheet
Drape the fly over the tent making sure the zippered, vestibule
end is over the door (Figure 4). At points H, I, J, K, L and M
on the inside of the tent fly you will find 1" side release buck-
les. Attach these points to their mates on the tent body. At
point N on the fly you will find a Velcro
®
attachment. Attach
this to the apex of the arched pole. Now at points A, B, C, D,
G and F you will find 1" LadderLocs with adjustable grommet-
ed webbing straps. Slip the grommets under the pole ends at
these points (Figure 5). Now working your way around the
tent a few times, tighten these adjustable straps until you have
achieved the desired tautness. Point O may be staked out to
increase ventilation. Lastly, stake out points Q and R to form
your vestibule.
First Pitch
In order to familiarize yourself with your new tent, we
suggest that you test pitch it before embarking on a
wilderness trip.
Select a Site
Look for a level spot that is protected from the wind in
order to ensure sleeping comfort. Clear the area of debris such as
sharp stones and sticks which might abrade or puncture the tent
floor. Choose an area that will drain well when it rains.
Unfurl the Tent and Assemble the Poles
Unfurl the tent and lay the tent floor flat on the ground with
the door unzipped. Carefully unfold the shock corded pole sec-
tions and allow them to slide together. Do not allow the poles
to snap together: This can lead to serious pole damage. Make
certain that the insert of each pole section is fully inserted into
the next pole section (Figure 1). You will have two straight
poles of equal length and one arched pole.
Stake out the Tent Floor
The Omega is a completely freestanding tent. It is not necessary
to stake down the tent floor in order to pitch it. However, we
recommend that the tent be staked down at points A, B, C and
D for stability, especially in high winds (Figure 2).
Erect the Tent
Insert the metal tips of one of the two long poles into the
grommets at points A and C (Figure 2). Insert the metal tips of
the other long pole into the grommets at points B and D. Next
hook the Clip-Loc
at point E (do not attach the cord yet). Fol-

Overview

The Sierra Designs Omega is a versatile tent designed for both 3-season and 4-season use, offering adaptability for various weather conditions and user needs. It is described as very easy to pitch and maintain, with clear instructions provided for quick, safe, and easy setup.

Function Description

The Omega tent serves as a portable shelter for outdoor enthusiasts. Its primary function is to provide protection from the elements, with features that allow it to adapt from a lightweight, well-ventilated 3-season shelter to a robust 4-season tent capable of withstanding harsh weather. The tent's design emphasizes ease of use, stability, and ventilation.

Important Technical Specifications

Contents:

  • Tent Body & Rainfly: 1
  • Tent Poles: 3 (two straight poles of equal length, one arched pole)
  • Tent Stakes: 9* (additional stakes may be required in severe conditions)
  • Guy Cord: 6
  • Line Tighteners: 6
  • Pitching Instructions: 1
  • Stake Sack: 1
  • Pole Sack: 1

Weight:

  • 4-Season Mode: 6 lbs. 8 oz. (making it one of the lightest 4-Season tents on the market).
  • 3-Season Mode: Achieves a weight savings of 6 oz. by removing two pole sections.

Pole System: The tent utilizes a system of three poles: two long straight poles and one arched pole. These poles are inserted into grommets and secured with Clip-Locs and Swift Clips. The pole sections are shock-corded for easy assembly.

Internal Guy System: This system, a Sierra Designs innovation, significantly increases the tent's strength in extreme weather conditions with the addition of a few guy cords. It requires 4 pieces of guy cord, 72" or longer, and utilizes loops in the tent's corners (A, B, C, D) and ceiling (S, T, H, I).

Ventilation Features:

  • 3-Season Mode: Features a large ceiling panel that folds back for tremendous ventilation. The front rip-stop door can also be folded away to reveal a large no-see-um panel for venting.
  • Fly Sheet: Designed to drape over the tent, with a zippered vestibule end over the door. It includes 1" side release buckles for attachment to the tent body and a Velcro® attachment for the apex of the arched pole.

Usage Features

First Pitch Recommendation: Users are advised to "test pitch" the tent before a wilderness trip to familiarize themselves with its setup.

Site Selection: It is recommended to choose a level, wind-protected spot, clear of sharp debris, and an area that drains well to ensure comfort and prevent damage.

Pole Assembly: Poles are shock-corded and designed to slide together. Users are cautioned against allowing poles to "snap together" to prevent damage. Each pole section's insert must be fully seated into the next section.

Tent Body Setup: The tent floor should be laid flat with the door unzipped. The Omega is a freestanding tent, but staking down points A, B, C, and D is recommended for stability, especially in high winds.

Erecting the Tent:

  1. Insert the metal tips of the two long poles into grommets at points A & C, and B & D, respectively.
  2. Hook the Clip-Loc™ at point E (cord not attached yet).
  3. Attach Swift Clips™ to corresponding tent poles along seams between A & C, and B & D.
  4. Place the arched pole over the two long poles, inserting its ends into grommets at F & G.
  5. Hook Clip-Locs at H & I, with the open gate pointing towards the rear of the tent.
  6. Attach the cord at points H, I & E by wrapping it across the open gate of the Clip-Loc, around the pole intersection 2-4 times for desired firmness, and then sliding it into the groove on the back-side of the clip to hold it taut.

Fly Sheet Installation:

  1. Drape the fly over the tent, ensuring the zippered, vestibule end is over the door.
  2. Attach the 1" side release buckles on the inside of the tent fly (at H, I, J, K, L, M) to their mates on the tent body.
  3. Attach the Velcro® attachment at point N on the fly to the apex of the arched pole.
  4. Slip the grommets of the 1" LadderLocs with adjustable webbing straps (at A, B, C, D, G, F) under the pole ends.
  5. Tighten these adjustable straps until the desired tautness is achieved.
  6. Stake out point O for increased ventilation, and points Q & R to form the vestibule.

Converting to 3-Season Shelter:

  1. Remove the black-color pole segments by pulling the Shok-cert out of the black pole section.
  2. First, remove black pole sections from grommets and undo Clip-Locs along the silver-black pole.
  3. Pull black sections downward until the shock cord appears. Grasp the shock cord and gently pull to remove the Shok-cert.
  4. Repeat for other silver-black pole sections.
  5. Place the silver pole ends into the pole buckets at points I and H.
  6. Unzip the large ceiling panel and roll it towards the rear of the tent, clipping it out of the way with the 5 panel clips in the ceiling.

Internal Guy System Installation:

  1. Tie one end of a cord through the webbing loop in the floor at point C.
  2. Secure the other end at point I with a double-half-hitch or line tightener.
  3. Repeat this procedure for lines between B and H, A and S (or H in extreme conditions), and D and T (or I in extreme conditions).
  4. To stow the cord out of the way when entering/exiting, loosen the cord and pass it through the loop in the ceiling. Note: The Internal Guy System will partially obstruct the doorway.

Maintenance Features

The manual emphasizes careful handling of the poles during assembly to prevent damage, suggesting that users avoid letting them "snap together." While not explicitly detailing cleaning or storage, the focus on proper assembly and site selection implies a preventative approach to maintenance, aiming to extend the tent's lifespan by avoiding common causes of wear and tear. The provision of a stake sack and pole sack suggests organized storage to protect components.
