Overview

The Silver Spring Single-fold Ramp is a portable ramp designed for temporary or semi-permanent use, facilitating access for wheelchairs and scooters. It is crucial for users to read and adhere to all instructions, warnings, and labels provided in the manual to ensure safe operation and to maintain the product's warranty. The ramp is not intended for commercial use and should only be used with a qualified helper and a lap belt when occupied.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Silver Spring Single-fold Ramp is to provide a safe and accessible incline for wheelchairs and scooters to overcome steps, porches, or other elevated surfaces. It is designed to be portable, allowing for easy setup and removal as needed, or can be anchored for more semi-permanent installations. The ramp can also be separated into two halves for easier stowage, transportation, or for loading unoccupied mobility equipment with wider wheelbases.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Maximum Weight Capacity: 700 lbs. This limit should never be exceeded.
  • Ramp Construction: The ramp features a slip-resistant tread surface to enhance traction.
  • Anchoring: The ramp can be temporarily anchored using provided clevis pins or semi-permanently anchored using non-provided hardware.
  • Top Lip Transition Plates: These plates are designed to fully overlap a secure, unobstructed, level landing. An optional SUITCASE® Top Lip Extension (TLE) is available to increase the reach of these plates from 3" to 9" for clearing obstructions, though using the TLE reduces the overall ramp weight capacity to 500 lbs.
  • Separable Design: The ramp can be separated into two halves by removing two hinge pins. When rejoined, two hinge pins must be used, with the spring section on the underside of the ramp.

Usage Features:

  • Pre-Assembly and Inspection: The ramp is shipped fully assembled. Before each use, it must be inspected for worn, loose, or damaged parts. Any damage or defects necessitate not using the ramp and contacting customer service.
  • Landing Requirements: The ramp must be placed on a secure, unobstructed, level landing that can support at least the ramp's weight capacity (700 lbs.). The top lip transition plates must fully overlap this landing.
  • Slope/Incline: Users must refer to their mobility equipment's owner guide for acceptable ramp usage, including proper slope/incline and chair direction. An incline chart is provided in the manual as a guideline for determining the appropriate ramp length based on the rise.
  • Anchoring Procedures:
    • Temporary: Position the ramp, use the holes in the top lip transition plates as a template to drill ¼" holes into the upper landing, and fully insert the provided clevis pins.
    • Semi-Permanent: Position the ramp, use the holes in the top lip transition plates as a template for anchor locations, and install non-provided anchoring hardware flush with the ramp surface. Hardware manufacturer's instructions must be followed to ensure sufficient type and size to prevent slippage.
  • Separation and Rejoining: For stowage or loading unoccupied mobility equipment with a wider wheelbase, the ramp can be separated by removing the hinge pins. When used with occupied mobility equipment, the ramp halves must be rejoined using two hinge pins, ensuring they are properly aligned and closed.
  • Load Centering: When using the ramp, especially when separated into two halves, loads must always be kept on the centerlines of each ramp half.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Always use the ramp with a qualified helper and a lap belt.
    • Exercise caution when folding and unfolding to avoid pinch points.
    • The ramp surface may be slippery in wet conditions; caution is advised.
    • Do not use the ramp if its surface is covered with ice, snow, dirt, leaves, or other debris.
    • Never modify the product.
    • Do not tamper with or attempt to repair any part of the ramp.

Maintenance Features:

  • Pre-Use Inspection: Before each use, check for worn, loose, or damaged parts.
  • Cleaning: Keep the ramp surface clear of ice, snow, dirt, leaves, and other debris.
    • For ice/snow: Remove accumulations and sweep clean.
    • For dirt/leaves/other debris: Sweep or wash with a soft bristle brush and non-alkaline detergent, then rinse well.
  • Storage: Store the ramp in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • No Modifications/Repairs: Users are explicitly warned not to tamper with, attempt to repair, or modify any portion of the ramp.

Warranty Information:

The product comes with a one-year manufacturer's warranty from the date of accepted delivery, covering defects in material and workmanship. This warranty is non-transferable and only covers the original end purchaser. It does not cover products purchased through non-authorized dealers, or damage from improper installation, misuse, abuse, accidents, negligence, or modifications. Product damage incurred during shipping must be noted on the Bill of Lading at the time of delivery to avoid voiding the warranty. Warranty claims must be made directly to the original place of purchase.
