This document describes the SILVERCREST Electric Rice Cooker KH 1558, a versatile kitchen appliance designed for both cooking rice and steaming various foods.
The Electric Rice Cooker KH 1558 is primarily used for cooking rice and steaming foods such as vegetables and fish. It features an automatic "keep-warm" function that activates once the cooking or steaming process is complete. The appliance is designed for ease of use with a simple function selector switch to choose between "Cooking" and "Keep-warm" modes.
Cooking Rice: To cook rice, users first remove the lid and cooking bowl. The desired quantity of rice is measured using the supplied measuring cup (a level cup typically yields one portion). It is recommended to thoroughly wash and sieve the rice to prevent poor cooking results and excessive foam/steam. After washing, the rice is placed in the cooking bowl and smoothed out. Water is added according to specific cup markings provided in the manual, which vary based on the amount of rice (e.g., 2 measuring beakers of rice require water up to marking "2"). For optimal results, the inside of the cooking bowl can be lightly greased with vegetable oil. The cooking process begins by pressing down the function selector switch, which illuminates the red "Cooking" control lamp. Once the rice is cooked, the appliance automatically switches to the "keep-warm" setting, indicated by the yellow control lamp. It is advised to let the rice stand for at least 15 minutes with the lid on before stirring and serving with the supplied plastic spoon to avoid damaging the anti-stick coating. The rice should not be kept warm for longer than 2 hours.
Steaming: For steaming, the required amount of water is poured into the cooking bowl. The steaming attachment is then placed on top of the cooking bowl, and the food to be steamed is placed inside the attachment. The lid is closed, and the appliance is plugged into a wall socket. The yellow "Keep-warm" control lamp will glow. Pressing the function selector switch down initiates the steaming process, turning off the yellow lamp and illuminating the red "Cooking" lamp. The steaming time depends on the volume of water used (e.g., 1 filled measuring cup for about 15 minutes, 2 for about 30 minutes). Once all the water has turned to steam, the appliance automatically switches back to the "keep-warm" mode.
