Overview

The SilverCrest Smart Motion Sensor, model SMSZ 1 A1, is an Information Technology device designed for indoor surveillance. Its primary function is to detect temperature changes in a designated area, typically caused by humans or animals, and report these movements to a connected mobile device. This allows users to monitor activity within their homes or other indoor spaces.

Function Description

The core function of the Smart Motion Sensor is motion detection. It identifies changes in temperature within its detection area, which are then interpreted as movement. When motion is detected, the product can send notifications to the user's mobile device, providing real-time alerts. The sensor operates on Zigbee 3.0 wireless technology, enabling seamless integration with a compatible gateway and the Lidl Home app.

The device includes a tamper alarm feature. This alarm is triggered if the product is removed from its wall bracket, providing an additional layer of security by alerting the user to potential tampering or unauthorized removal of the sensor.

The sensor also features a test mode, which is activated automatically after a warm-up phase. In this mode, if human body movement is detected, a notification is sent as a reminder. After a set period, the product transitions to a power-saving mode to conserve battery life. In power-saving mode, if movement is detected, a notification is still sent. If no movement is detected for a minute, the product will resume detecting movements.

Usage Features

To use the Smart Motion Sensor, a compatible gateway (e.g., IAN 341809_1910, IAN 343820_1910, IAN 343821_1910, or newer versions) and the Lidl Home app are required. The app, available for iOS (9.0 or higher) and Android (5.0 or higher) mobile devices, serves as the central control interface for the sensor. A 2.4 GHz, IEEE 802.11b/g/n router is also necessary for network connectivity.

Pairing and Setup:

The setup process involves installing the Lidl Home app and setting up the gateway first. Once the gateway is configured, the motion sensor can be paired with the mobile device. This typically involves pulling a protective strip from the battery compartment, waiting for a warm-up phase (indicated by a flashing red LED), and then using a metal pin to push a button in a pinhole for a few seconds until a green LED flashes quickly. The app guides the user through selecting the gateway, confirming the indicator blink, establishing the connection, and naming the product. Users can assign the product to a specific room within the app.

Positioning:

Optimal performance is achieved by installing the product at a height of 2.1 meters above the floor. The sensor detects movements within a radius of 10 meters, with a detection angle of 90 degrees from the center of the sensor. Certain environments should be avoided to prevent false alarms, such as rooms with pets that might trigger the alarm unnecessarily, areas with air-conditioning, heat sources, direct sunlight, fans/rotating objects, or vibrations.

Wall Mounting:

The product can be mounted to a wall using the provided wall bracket, screws, and dowels. Before drilling, it is crucial to use a voltage/metal detector to avoid pipes or mains cables. Alternatively, the product can be stuck to a smooth surface using adhesive tape on the back of the wall bracket. The wall bracket has an arrow that must point upwards for correct orientation. The tamper alarm is active when the product is removed from its wall bracket.

App Functionality:

The Lidl Home app provides several features for managing the sensor:

  • History: Users can view a list of movements and tamper alarms detected by the sensor.
  • Settings: The app allows users to configure various settings, including enabling/disabling tamper alarms, low battery alarms, and movement detection.
  • Additional Functions: This section offers advanced options such as:
    • Icon/Name/Location: Customize the sensor's icon, rename it, and assign it to a specific room.
    • Device Information: View virtual ID and time zone.
    • Tap-to-Run and Automation: Integrate the sensor into smart home scenarios and automatic actions, allowing it to interact with other smart devices.
    • Offline Notification: Receive alerts if the product goes offline for more than 5 hours.
    • Share Device: Grant access to the sensor's data and controls to other family members.
    • Create Group: Group the sensor with other devices for synchronized use.
    • FAQ: Access frequently asked questions.
    • Check for Firmware Upgrade: Update the ZigBee module's firmware.
    • Remove Device: Disconnect the product from the app, with an option to "Disconnect and wipe data" to reset to factory settings and delete all data from the product and the cloud.

Unpairing:

The unpairing process is initiated through the Lidl Home app. Users navigate to the sensor's settings, select "Remove Device," and choose between "Disconnect" (which resets the product to offline mode and starts pairing mode) or "Disconnect and wipe data" (which performs a factory reset and deletes all data).

LED Signals:

The sensor uses an LED to indicate its status:

  • Red (30 s): Warm-up phase.
  • Red (1x): Motion alarm / tamper alarm.
  • Green (quickly): Product connecting to network.
  • Green (3 s): Successful pairing with network.
  • Green (6x): Successful unpairing from network.

Maintenance Features

Battery Replacement:

The product uses a CR123A battery. To replace it, the battery compartment cover needs to be removed. The old battery is then taken out, and a new one is inserted, ensuring correct polarity. The battery compartment cover is then reattached. The app displays the current battery level.

Cleaning and Care:

For cleaning, the battery should be removed from the compartment. The product and its accessories should be cleaned with a slightly moistened cloth. It is crucial not to immerse the electrical parts in water or other liquids, nor to hold the product under running water. Abrasives, harsh cleaning solutions, or hard brushes should not be used. All parts must be allowed to dry completely after cleaning.

Storage:

When not in use, the product should be stored in its original packaging in a dry, secure location, out of reach of children.

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides a basic troubleshooting guide for common issues:

  • Product cannot be controlled: This could be due to the distance between the gateway and the product being too large, or walls/obstacles interfering with the signal. Repositioning the gateway or product, or triggering the product, can resolve this.
  • Battery flat: If the battery is flat, it needs to be replaced.

Disposal:

Before disposing of or returning the product, users should ensure all data has been deleted using the "Disconnect and wipe data" function in the app. The product and its packaging materials are recyclable and should be disposed of separately according to local regulations. Batteries and rechargeable batteries must be recycled at available collection points, as they may contain toxic heavy metals and are subject to hazardous waste treatment rules.
