Overview

This document describes the SIMPSON PS60842 Professional Pressure Washer, a robust cleaning tool designed for various applications.

Function Description:

The SIMPSON PS60842 is a professional-grade pressure washer that utilizes a high-pressure pump driven by an engine to increase the pressure of a water supply. This pressurized water is then delivered through a high-pressure hose to a spray gun and wand, allowing users to control the water flow rate, direction, and pressure for effective cleaning. The unit is designed to handle tough cleaning tasks on a variety of surfaces. It also features a detergent siphon hose for applying cleaning agents, enhancing its versatility. The pressure washer operates in a bypass mode when the gun trigger is not pulled, allowing water to recirculate within the pump without turning off the engine, which is convenient for repositioning during cleaning. However, it's crucial not to let the unit run in bypass mode for more than two minutes to prevent overheating and pump damage. A thermal relief valve is incorporated to release water and lower internal temperature if the pump overheats.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: PS60842
  • PSI Max: 3600 PSI (Pounds per Square Inch) – This indicates the maximum water pressure the unit can generate.
  • GPM Max: 2.5 GPM (Gallons per Minute) – This specifies the maximum flow rate of water.
  • High Pressure Hose: 35 ft. (10.7 m) – The length of the hose provided for pressurized water delivery.
  • Pressure of Inlet Water: 20-100 PSI – The required minimum and maximum pressure for the incoming water supply.
  • Inlet Water: Cold tap water (100 °F max) – The recommended temperature for the water supply.
  • Soap Consumption Rate: 10% max – The maximum rate at which cleaning solutions can be siphoned.
  • Ethanol Percentage (Fuel): <10% OK, NO 15%-30%-85% – Emphasizes the critical requirement for fuel with less than 10% ethanol to prevent damage and voiding of warranty.
  • Water Supply Minimum Requirements: 20 PSI and 5 Gallons Per Minute. For well water sources, the garden hose length should not exceed 30 ft. (9 m).

Usage Features:

The pressure washer offers several features to optimize its use:

  • Quick-Connect Spray Wand: This allows for quick and easy changing of high-pressure nozzles, which are color-coded to match specific spray patterns and cleaning tasks.
    • Red (0°): Powerful pinpoint spray for spot cleaning hard, unpainted surfaces or high-reach areas. Not for use on wood.
    • Yellow (15°): Intense cleaning of unpainted hard surfaces like grills, driveways, concrete, brick walkways, and stucco.
    • Green (25°): Standard cleaning nozzle for most applications, suitable for yard tools, sidewalks, lawn furniture, unpainted siding, stucco, gutters, and eaves.
    • White (40°): Wide spray for cleaning painted or delicate surfaces such as auto/RV, marine, wood, painted brick, stucco, vinyl, and painted siding.
    • Black (low pressure): Applies cleaning solutions safely on all surfaces.
  • Pressure Adjustments: While preset for optimum pressure, users can lower the pressure by backing away from the surface, changing to the 40° nozzle, or adjusting the pressure control knob on the pump (counter-clockwise to lower, clockwise to return to factory setting).
  • Chemical/Cleaning Solvent Application: The detergent siphon hose allows for low-pressure application of soaps and chemicals specifically designed for pressure washer use. Bleach should not be used. A 1:7 ratio of chemical/cleaning solution to water is used. The black soap nozzle must be installed for chemicals to siphon.
  • Safety Features: Includes a trigger lock on the spray gun to prevent accidental spraying when not in use. The manual strongly advises against operating the unit indoors due to carbon monoxide risk and emphasizes wearing ANSI-approved Z87.1 safety glasses and protective clothing.

Maintenance Features:

Routine maintenance is essential for efficient operation and longevity:

  • Engine Maintenance: Users are directed to consult the Engine Owner's Manual for specific recommendations regarding oil changes, fuel, and other engine-related maintenance. Fuel containing greater than 10% ethanol is explicitly prohibited to prevent damage and voiding the warranty. Ethanol Shield™ (sold separately) is recommended as a fuel stabilizer.
  • Pump Oil: The pump is factory-filled with oil. SIMPSON® Premium Pump Crankcase Oil is preferred, or SAE 15W-40 can be used. Oil should be changed after the first 50 hours of operation, then every 100 hours or every 3 months. The oil level should be checked via the sight glass.
  • Connections: Hoses, gun, and spray wand connections should be regularly cleaned and lubricated with light oil or lithium grease to prevent leaks and O-ring damage.
  • Nozzle Cleaning: Clogged nozzles can cause excessive pressure or pump pulsation. A nozzle cleaning kit is provided, and instructions are given for clearing obstructions.
  • Water Inlet Filter: The filter screen in the water inlet of the pump should be checked and cleaned periodically to ensure proper water flow.
  • Storage: Proper storage procedures are outlined, including draining water from the high-pressure hose, gun, and wand, and securing the detergent siphon hose. For extended storage or freezing conditions, using a SIMPSON® / POWERWASHER® pump protector/winter protector is recommended to lubricate internal seals. Fuel should be stabilized with Ethanol Shield™ and the engine run for 10 minutes to ensure treated fuel replaces untreated fuel in the carburetor. The fuel valve should be turned off, and the engine run until it stops from lack of fuel.
