To Remove and Disassemble the
Needle Thread Tension
Loosen the set screw (A,
Fig. 21) and withdraw the
complete tension assembly
from the machine.
Turn the thumb nut
(B, Fig. 22) until zero
on the index flange

index flange (D)
to disengage the
pin (C) in the
thumb nut (B)
from the flange
and remove the thumb nut and flange, the flange
stop washer (E, Fig. 23), tension spring (F), indicator

(G), tension releasing pin (J), and tension disc assem-
bly (II), which includes the thread take-np spring,
thread guard plate and two discs.

To Reassemble and Replace
the Needle Thread Tension
Place (he two tension discs (T-, Fig. 24) with then-
convex sides (high centers) facing each other in posi-
tion on the thread
guard (M). Then
pass the eyelet (N)
of the thread take-
up spring under the
thread guard (M),
having the coils of
the spring above
the tension discs,
as shown in Fig. 24.
Pass the threaded end (O, Fig. 25) of the tension
stud through the coils of the take-up spring
(P), through the holes
in the two tension discs
(L) and thread guard
(M), and through the
eyelet (X, Fig.24)ofthe
take-up spring, having
the end of the take-up
spring enter one of the
grooves (Q) in the stud.
Then place the tension
releasing pin (J) in the
tension stud.

Hold the parts thus assembled against the shoulder
on the stud and place the tension indicator (G, Fig. 20)
