Use SINGER "TYPE C" OIL ONLY for automatic lubrication.
Check oil flow in window and to hook; note oil pattern on paper.
Fill oil reservoir to high mark and check daily.
Maximum speeds for Class 457U machines, with break-in period recommendations.
Use Singer needles Catalog 1906 (chromium) and 8752 (chromium) for 457U140.
Needle sizes determined by thread size and material type being sewn.
Remove any thread remains from the rotary take-up before threading.
Caution: Be careful to avoid injury from the thread cutter.
Thread the machine only when the needle bar is in its highest position.
Steps for removing the bobbin case: open latch, pull case, release latch, bobbin drops.
Steps for replacing bobbin case: hold latch, replace case, release latch, press back.
Place bobbin on spindle, wind thread, press lever against bobbin.
Draw thread down, under spring, into delivery eye, and slot in bobbin case.
Use slot A for light-weight; slot B for medium-weight material.
Bobbin thread tension should be light but sufficient for correct stitch.
Regulate needle thread tension only when presser foot is down.
Turn regulating screw to set desired stitch length for reverse feeding.

For 457U135/140 machines, set hand lever for zig-zag stitch within 0-8 bight range.
Pressure on material should be light but sufficient for correct feeding.
Clean lint/waste around hook, feed rows, and hook area of oil pan.
