Portable Reverse Osmosis
OPERATORS MANUAL
WARNINGS
1. DO NOT stop the flow of waste water. Reverse Osmosis systems create waste
water in the process of making RO water.
2. DO NOT let the pump run dry. Line pressure water must be supplied to the
system before and during operation.
3.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1. The system may be operated in the horizontal position as shown above, or in the
vertical position. It is recommended to operate in the horizontal position to avoid
a tipping hazard.
2. CONNECT your water supply vis a garden hose. Supply should be minimum of 5
gallons per minute and have positive pressure.
3. CONNECT a short garden hose to the waste port to carry waste water away from
where you are operating the system.
4. CONNECT the hose you will be using for clean RO water.
5. SLOWLY turn on the water source.
6. FLUSH the system for 5 minutes before use. There should be water coming from
both the waste hose and the RO hose.
7. PLUG the power cord into a GFI 115 volt electrical outlet.
8. START the system with the switch on the pump motor.
9. The system is equipped with a flow restrictor on the waste stream. This limits the
waste to approximately 2.5 gallons per minute and applies appropriate back

Overview

The SK Blue Gold Watermakers PRO Series Portable Reverse Osmosis system is designed to produce clean, potable water from various sources through the process of reverse osmosis. This portable unit is suitable for both horizontal and vertical operation, though horizontal is recommended to prevent tipping.

Function Description

The PRO Series system filters water through a multi-stage process to remove impurities and produce high-quality RO (Reverse Osmosis) water. It utilizes a pump to maintain pressure across the membranes, ensuring efficient water production. The system is equipped with a waste port for the discharge of concentrated impurities and a separate port for the clean RO water. A key safety feature includes a blow-off valve that diverts RO water to the waste stream if the flow of RO water is stopped, preventing damage to the system.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Water Recovery: The system is designed to achieve a 40-50% water recovery rate, meaning 40-50% of the input water is converted into clean RO water, with the remainder being waste. Actual recovery may vary based on feed water flow, pressure, temperature, and pre-filter condition.
  • Waste Water Flow: The system includes a flow restrictor on the waste stream, limiting waste water output to approximately 2.5 gallons per minute.
  • Power Requirements: The pump motor operates on a GFI 115 volt electrical outlet.
  • Water Supply: Requires a minimum water supply of 5 gallons per minute with positive pressure.
  • Carbon Cartridge Capacity: Approximately 5,000 gallons.
  • Membrane Lifespan: Under normal operating conditions, membranes are expected to last 3-5 years.
  • Filter Cartridges:
    • Sediment Cartridge: Pleated Filter Cartridge, 2-3/4″ x 9-3/4″ 5 micron.
    • Carbon Cartridge: Carbon Block Cartridge.

Usage Features

  • Portability: Designed for easy transport and setup, allowing for use in various locations.
  • Flexible Operation: Can be operated in both horizontal and vertical positions.
  • Simple Connections: Utilizes standard garden hose connections for water supply, waste water, and clean RO water output.
  • Flush Function: Requires a 5-minute flush before initial use and a 2-minute flush after use to maintain system hygiene and membrane longevity.
  • Pump Control: Features a switch on the pump motor for easy system activation and deactivation.
  • Safety Features:
    • Waste Water Flow: Emphasizes the importance of continuous waste water flow; stopping it can damage the system.
    • Pump Protection: Warns against running the pump dry; line pressure water must always be supplied during operation.
    • Blow-Off Valve: Prevents system damage if RO water flow is inadvertently stopped (e.g., by a self-closing nozzle) by diverting RO water to the waste stream.
    • GFI Outlet: Requires connection to a GFI 115 volt electrical outlet for electrical safety.
  • Nozzle Compatibility: The system should not be operated with self-closing hose handles or spray nozzles that completely stop the flow of RO water. Spray nozzles that allow continuous flow are acceptable.
  • Post-Use Drainage: After use, the system should be placed in a vertical position to allow excess water to drain.

Maintenance Features

  • Sediment Cartridge:
    • Visual Inspection: Should be visually checked for dirtiness.
    • Replacement Indicator: Replace if dirty or if RO water production diminishes.
    • Ordering: Available at www.skwatermakers.net.
  • Carbon Cartridge:
    • Usage Tracking: Estimate gallons used to determine replacement time.
    • Replacement Schedule: Change after approximately 16 hours of use (based on a 5,000-gallon capacity and 300 gallons per hour typical city water supply).
    • Chlorine Protection: Essential for removing chlorine from city water, which can damage membranes. The system must never be operated without a carbon cartridge.
    • Ordering: Available at www.skwatermakers.net.
  • Membranes:
    • Lifespan: Expected to last 3-5 years, depending on usage, storage, water conditions, and temperature.
    • Freeze Protection: Must never be allowed to freeze. In winter, store the system in a heated environment or remove and store membranes sealed in plastic in a heated environment.
    • Replacement: SK Watermakers recommends professional service for membrane removal/replacement. A video guide is available on the SKWatermakers YouTube channel for those who wish to perform it themselves.
    • Ordering: Available by calling SK Watermakers at 941-257-2036.
