Mounting instructions
Remove any burrs on the shaft with em-1
ery cloth or a fine file, wipe clean with a
cloth and check the shaft diameter
(fig 1). For recommended shaft toler-
ances see table 1.
Mount any components on the shaft that 2
are between the two bearings or unit
positions.
Clean the base of the unit and its support 3
surface. (fig. 2), making sure that the
support surface is flat and smooth. Flat-
ness should be within IT7 and roughness
R
a
12,5 mm. In case of pillow block
units, if the elevation must be adjusted by
shims, the shims must extend the full
length and width of the base of the unit.
Slide the first bearing unit onto the shaft, 4
making sure that the mounting collar is
accessible (fig. 3). For pillow block
units, fit the attachment bolts or nuts but
do not tighten them. Flanged bearing
units should be fastened to the machine
wall using, when available, the centring
recess machined at the housing back.
Locate the second bearing unit on the 5
shaft following steps 3 and 4. For pillow
block units, carefully align both units us-
ing the shaft and then fully tighten the at-
tachment bolts in the housing base. Fas-
ten flanged units securely to the machine
wall using, when available, the centring
recess machined at the housing back.

Warning!
Ensure the drive is not unexpectedly
started during mounting or dismounting op-
erations, turn off, lock and tag the power
source before proceeding.
!
Read the instructions completely
prior to starting work
NOTE: SKF ConCentra ball bearings and units
are unit assemblies. No attempt should be
made to disassemble the sleeve and the
mounting collar from the bearing prior to in-
stallation. These mounting instructions have
been made in order to achieve a tight inter-
ference fit on the shaft using commercial
grade shafts.
When mounting OR dismounting, SKF rec-
ommends removing all the weight from the
bearing using slings or jacks, and securing
the shaft to prevent it from rotating.
