The SmallHD Smart 5 Series is a line of professional, compact 5-inch touchscreen monitors designed for filmmakers and cinematographers, offering a robust toolset, daylight-viewable displays, and advanced PageOS functionality. These monitors are built to provide a comprehensive monitoring solution with various models catering to different needs in terms of brightness, control options, and connectivity.

Function Description:

The Smart 5 Series monitors serve as on-camera displays for video production, allowing users to monitor video signals, analyze images with various tools, and control camera settings (with optional camera control functionality). They integrate SmallHD's PageOS 5, which enables users to configure and assign specific image analyzing tools and features to up to eight customizable pages, streamlining workflows by allowing quick access to desired tools without individually enabling or disabling features. The monitors support video signals via HDMI up to 4Kp30 and via SDI up to 1080p60.

Usage Features:

  • PageOS 5 Interface: Allows users to configure and assign specific image analyzing tools and features to up to eight customizable pages.
  • Touch Screen Navigation: Intuitive touchscreen interface similar to a smartphone, supporting pinch-to-zoom, swiping between pages, and accessing deep settings menus (Calibration, Profiles, etc.).
  • Adding New Pages: Users can create new pages from a fresh workspace, a template, or a specific utility.
  • Activating Tools: Tools can be activated by tapping the screen to reveal the toolbar and selecting the desired tool. Custom settings for tools can be adjusted via an arrow icon.
  • Joystick/Button Navigation: Some models (Cine 5, Ultra 5, Ultra 5 TX/RX) are equipped with a joystick and buttons for navigation.
  • Dashboard: Provides quick access to commonly used settings like Input, Volume, and Backlight, and can be disabled.
  • EL Zone: A stop-based exposure map tool developed in collaboration with Ed Lachman, ASC, that functions as a virtual spot meter, replacing IRE exposure values with stops. It requires a Log signal input and a configured color pipe with "Do Not Convert" selected.
  • Input Config: Allows selection of input sources and configuration for log conversions into HDR and SDR color spaces.
  • Color Pipe: Guides users through assigning and configuring color space and curve transformations for HDR and SDR from log-based sources.
  • Image Rotate: Options for upside-down mounting and mirroring the display.

  • Warranty Activation: Users must activate their monitor's warranty online at https://activate.smallhd.com/ using the serial number (located under the battery) and a copy of their invoice.
  • Firmware Updates: Firmware can be updated by inserting an SD card with a compatible update file. The latest firmware is available at www.smallhd.com/software.
  • Factory Reset: Resets monitor settings to original factory settings, with an option to clear registration and calibration data.
