Overview

This document outlines the features, usage, maintenance, and installation of a wine cellar appliance.

Function Description

This appliance is a wine cellar designed exclusively for storing wine in a domestic setting. It is not intended for use with external timers or remote-control systems, nor for cooling rooms. The wine cellar maintains optimal conditions for wine storage, including temperature and humidity control, and features activated charcoal filters for air quality. It can be used in various domestic or similar environments, such as staff kitchen areas, farmhouses, hotels, motels, residential environments, bed and breakfast establishments, and catering applications.

Important Technical Specifications

The appliance operates within specific climate classes (SN, N, ST, T, SN-ST, SN-T) corresponding to different room temperature ranges:

  • SN (Subnormal): +10°C to +32°C
  • N (Normal): +16°C to +32°C
  • ST (Subtropical): +16°C to +38°C
  • T (Tropical): +16°C to +43°C
  • SN-ST: +10°C to +38°C
  • SN-T: +10°C to +43°C

It contains a small quantity of isobutane (R600a) as a refrigerant. The appliance can be used up to a maximum altitude of 2,000 metres above sea level. Electrical connection requires compliance with safety standards, including grounding, and the plug must always be accessible. The tightening torque for terminal supply wire screws is 1.5 - 2 Nm. The appliance contains light sources of efficiency class "A" which are not user-replaceable.

The wine cellar's overall dimensions are provided in millimeters:

  • Width: 596 mm
  • Height: 456.5 mm
  • Depth: 453 mm (with an additional 3.5 mm for the door)
  • Door opening angle: 93°
  • Mounting dimensions: 560-568 mm width, 450 mm height, 550 mm depth. Minimum ventilation space of 200 cm² is required at the top and bottom.

Usage Features

The control panel includes several keys for operation:

  • ON/OFF key: Switches the appliance on/off and activates the control panel (on some models).
  • Forced light key: Turns the interior lighting on/off. The forced light automatically turns off after 15 minutes.
  • Decrease key: Decreases the temperature inside the wine cellar (range 5°C to 20°C). Each press changes the temperature by 1°C.
  • Increase key: Increases the temperature inside the wine cellar.
  • Connection key (on some models only): Activates connectivity functions.
  • Control lock key: Disables the control panel keys to prevent accidental activation.
  • Manual ventilation key: Activates/deactivates manual ventilation mode to increase humidity. If deactivated, the fan operates automatically based on software settings.
  • Bell key (on some models only): Deactivates audible warnings when an alarm is triggered.

The appliance features removable shelves for easy access to bottles. The upper shelf can hold up to 6 Bordeaux-type 0.75 litre bottles, the central shelf up to 9, and the base up to 6. Extractable shelves can hold up to 4 champagne/sparkling wine type bottles horizontally. A maximum of 21 Bordeaux-type 0.75 litre bottles can be stored in total.

Smeg Connect (on some models only): This technology allows control via a smartphone or PC tablet app. Requirements include iOS 10.x or later or Android 5.1 or later, a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network (WPA2 protected), and internet connection.

Temperature Format: The display can show temperature in degrees Celsius (°C) or Fahrenheit (°F).

Demo Mode (for showrooms only): This mode turns off fans and compressor while keeping the control panel active. It displays "Sh" for 2 seconds every 2 minutes and allows forced lighting to remain on indefinitely.

Alarms: The appliance provides alarms for door open (display shows "ES" after 60 seconds) and temperature deviations (flashing display). Fault alarms (e.g., "E1" to "E9", "EA", "EC", "EE", "EF") indicate appliance malfunctions. Connectivity alarms (e.g., "EE", "EF") indicate issues with Smeg Connect. Alarms typically include an audible warning and a flashing message on the display until the condition is resolved.

Wine Storage Advice:

  • White wines: Generally stored between 10°C and 14°C. Young, fresh, aromatic whites at 10°C; less aromatic at 12°C; full, mature whites at 12°C-14°C.
  • Rosé wines: Similar to whites, 10°C-14°C, depending on tannin content and body.
  • Red wines: Generally served at higher temperatures due to higher tannin and lower acidity. Young reds with low tannin at 14°C-16°C; full-bodied types at 16°C-18°C. "Nouveau" wines at 12°C-14°C.
  • Sparkling wines: Sweet, aromatic whites at 8°C; sweet, aromatic reds at 10°C-12°C. "Charmat method" dry sparkling wines at 8°C-10°C. "Traditional method" sparkling wines without year at 8°C-10°C; with year at 10°C-12°C. Prestige sparkling wines (vintage, aged) up to 12°C.
  • Dessert and Fortified wines: 10°C-18°C, depending on desired emphasis of sweetness, bouquet, or freshness.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning:

  • Outside: Clean with water or alcohol-based liquid detergents. Avoid aggressive detergents and rough sponges.
  • Inside: Clean with diluted liquid detergent, warm water, and a little vinegar. The interior walls have antibacterial protection.
  • Removable shelves: Clean with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid soaps, detergents, and sponges that could damage wood or steel.

Activated Charcoal Filter: Must be replaced at least once a year to maintain air quality. To replace: turn the filter cap 90°, extract, replace with a new filter, and reinsert the cap. Replacement filters can be ordered from Authorised Service Centres.

Troubleshooting: The manual provides guidance for common issues such as the appliance not working (check plug, main switch), compressor running too often/continuously (room temperature, door opening, sealing, non-cooled bottles), and excessive condensate build-up (door opening, warm bottles).

Turning off the appliance: For long periods of disuse, switch off the appliance, unplug it, empty the wine cellar, dry any residual moisture, and leave the door ajar to prevent mould and unpleasant smells.

Door Opening Direction Reversal (on some models only): Instructions are provided to reverse the door from right to left, involving removing and repositioning hinges and the door pusher mechanism.

Push-pull mechanism (on some models only): Adjustment instructions are provided to optimize door opening/closing.

General Safety Instructions: Emphasize keeping children under 8 supervised, proper use by children aged 8+ and individuals with reduced capacities, never playing with the appliance, not using water to extinguish fires, cleaning not by unsupervised children, installation/servicing by qualified personnel, no modifications, no sharp metal objects in slots, no self-repairs, no pulling cables to unplug, immediate technical support for damaged power cables, and replacement of power cables by authorised technicians.
