Overview

The Smeg 50's Style food processor is an accessory designed to work in conjunction with Smeg's HBF line of hand blenders, offering a versatile solution for various food preparation tasks in the home. This appliance is intended for indoor, household-type use and is not designed for installation in manufactured homes or RVs, nor for use with external timers or remote control systems. Continuous monitoring of the appliance during use is recommended.

Function Description

The food processor, when combined with a compatible Smeg hand blender, can blend, chop, mix, and emulsify a wide range of ingredients. It comes with several accessories, each designed for specific functions:

  • S-shaped blade (10): This steel blade is ideal for grinding, chopping, blending, and mixing large quantities of ingredients. It's suitable for tasks like processing meat, nuts, and creating various mixtures.
  • Emulsifier disc (11): Specifically designed for whipping cream and egg whites, as well as emulsifying different types of sauces.
  • Reversible shredding disc (13): This disc offers two different sizes for fine or coarse grating, making it suitable for grating vegetables, fruits, shelled nuts, chocolate, and cheese.
  • Variable slicing disc (12): Capable of slicing most foods, with an adjustable blade thickness ranging from 1 to 6 mm. The thickness can be adjusted by grasping the edge of the disc opposite the blade and rotating the circular pin until the desired setting is selected.

The food processor includes a 1.5-quart (1.5 l) BPA-free bowl (8) for processing large quantities of ingredients, a lid (6) with a feed chute (7), and a food pusher (9) to facilitate the introduction of food into the bowl. The motor body (4) of the hand blender, which is purchased separately, connects to the gearbox (5) of the food processor to power the blades and discs.

Usage Features

Before first use, all parts that may come into contact with food should be thoroughly washed. When assembling, the accessory holder (14) is placed on the pin in the center of the bowl (8), followed by the desired accessory (S-shaped blade, emulsifier disc, reversible shredding disc, or variable slicing disc) on the holder. It's crucial to handle the sharp blades carefully by grasping their plastic parts. The lid (6) is then placed on the bowl (8) and turned counterclockwise to close. The gearbox (5) is positioned on the food processor and pressed down to attach it, and finally, the motor body (4) of the hand blender is inserted into the gearbox until it clicks into place.

Ingredients are inserted through the feed chute (7) using the food pusher (9) in a careful and uniform manner; no other tools or fingers should be used to push food. The appliance is switched on by pressing either the ON/OFF button (2) or the TURBO button (3) on the hand blender. The speed can be adjusted by turning the speed selector (1).

Specific guidelines are provided for processing various ingredients with different accessories, including recommended quantities, speeds (Medium/High or Turbo), and processing times. For example, the S-shaped blade can process 1.5 lb (700 g) of meat or fish cut into 1-inch (2.5 cm) cubes in 30 seconds on Turbo speed. The emulsifier disc can whip 3 eggs in 40 seconds on Medium speed or 1.5 cups (350 ml) of whipped cream in 60 seconds on Medium speed. The maximum capacity for egg whites is 7, for whipped cream is 600 ml, and for other liquids is 1 liter. Results may vary based on ingredient quality and desired consistency.

Maintenance Features

For safety, the appliance should be unplugged immediately after use before any cleaning or maintenance.

  • Cleaning the motor body of the blender: The motor body should not be immersed in water or other liquids. It should be cleaned with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Cleaning products containing chlorine, ammonia, or bleach should not be used on metallic surface finishes.
  • Cleaning the food processor and its accessories:
    • The gearbox should be removed from the lid before cleaning. It should not be immersed in water or washed in a dishwasher; instead, it should be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth and dried thoroughly.
    • The S-shaped blade and discs should be carefully removed from the food processor bowl. They should be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth and a mild detergent. Abrasive sponges should not be used on plastic or metal parts to avoid scratching.
    • The bowl and the lid of the food processor are dishwasher-safe but should only be placed on the top rack of the dishwasher, not the bottom rack.

It is important to allow the food processor to cool down before cleaning. Regular cleaning and maintenance help ensure the longevity and safe operation of the appliance.
