Overview

The Snowie Block Shaver is a specialized device designed to produce fine, fluffy snow from block ice, primarily for shaved ice treats. It utilizes a flat-blade planer design, which is highlighted as a key safety feature. The machine is engineered for commercial applications, incorporating health codes and being NSF approved. Its patent-pending designs, including the ice cabinet and guides, snow catch, blade, paddle-wheel, and snow-shaper, aim to provide convenient, safe, efficient, and sanitary operation.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Snowie Block Shaver is to shave block ice into fine, fluffy snow. Users place a block of ice into the ice cabinet, and upon activating the machine via a foot pedal, a blade spins to shave the ice. Actuators depress the ice onto the blade, controlling the amount of snow produced. The shaved snow is then propelled through an exit chute into a cup. The machine allows for adjustable torque and speed, enabling control over snow quality and production speed.

Usage Features:

The Snowie Block Shaver is designed for ease of setup and operation.

  • Setup:
    • Place the Drip Pan on a counter edge with the drip hose draining into a catch container.
    • Place the Block Shaver on the Drip Pan.
    • Lift the Ice Cabinet front cover over the Rubber Stopper.
    • Raise and tilt the Ice Cabinet front to secure it open.
    • Press the "LOAD" switch to raise the Ice Foot to its top position.
    • Place the ice block in the Ice Cabinet, ensuring all corners rest flat on the blade and only ice is in the shaving chamber.
    • Flip the front switch down to "FOOT" and press the Foot Pedal to lower the Ice Foot Actuators until the Ice Foot securely holds the ice block.
    • Close the Ice Cabinet cover completely, ensuring the Ice Pressure Flap holds the ice securely and Rubber Stoppers are in the guide holes. The machine will not function until the magnetic sensor is engaged.
  • Operation:
    • Ensure the front switch is in the "FOOT" position and the Foot Pedal is fully plugged in.
    • The Foot Pedal has two stages: 1) blade rotation (motor on) and 2) actuator lowering for shaving. Careful pressure control allows blade rotation without actuator lowering.
    • Snow is propelled through the chute. Longer depression of the foot pedal increases actuator depression, leading to more snow. Releasing the pedal slows the blade to a stop.
    • To collect snow, place a cup edge into the Snow Shaper depression and pull the clear Snow Catch around the cup bottom to direct snow. Holding the cup too close can clog the chute, while holding the Snow Catch too loosely can cause snow to escape.
    • Steady pressure on the Foot Pedal maintains snow flow. Speed Control can be adjusted for desired snow quality vs. production speed.
    • Once the cup is full, use the Snow Shaper to form the snow top and scrape off excess snow from the rim. Avoid compressing the snow too tightly.
    • To flavor, pour syrup on top until it's visible at the edge, indicating even distribution. An 8 oz. Snowie typically requires 3 oz. of syrup.
  • Take Down:
    • Raise the Ice Foot by placing the switch in the "LOAD" position.
    • Remove the ice.
    • Wipe up excess ice and water from around the Drip Pan.
    • Allow all parts to air dry.
    • For transport, carry the Block Shaver using the Carry Handles, with the Ice Cabinet completely closed, the Foot Pedal removed, and the power cord wrapped securely.
  • Internal Controls (Owner Adjustable):
    • Motor Off Delay Unit: Controls the delay before the motor turns off.
    • Duration Control Dial (0.05 to 1.0 second): Adjusts the duration of certain operations.
    • Actuator Speed Control Dial: Adjusts the speed of the actuators.
    • 10 A Fuse: Overcurrent protection.
    • Magnetic Sensor: Ensures the Ice Cabinet cover is properly closed for operation.

Maintenance Features:

Regular and thorough maintenance is crucial for sanitary conditions and performance.

  • Daily Maintenance:
    • Raise the Ice Foot for blade inspections, remove power, and check the blade tab (secure as needed).
    • Wipe down the case exterior, snow chutes, and flap.
    • Tip the machine forward to drain water and dry out the blade and ice cabinet.
  • Weekly Maintenance:
    • Disassemble and clean the shaver interior and exterior.
    • Tighten any loose bolts, screws, or nuts.
  • Monthly Maintenance:
    • Check the foot pedal for wear/cracks.
    • Check case/covers and clean thoroughly.
    • Disassemble ice foot actuators and clean thoroughly.
    • Perform blade change or rotation (as needed).
  • Seasonal Maintenance:
    • Thoroughly clean the foot pedal, power cord, and inside/outside case surfaces.
    • Wash equipment with a mild diluted vinegar-water solution to remove water spots.
