Overview

This document describes the SODECA WALL/DUCT THT/WALL series of fans, which are designed for both wall and duct mounting applications. These devices are primarily used for smoke extraction in case of fire, but also serve as general ventilation units.

Function Description

The THT/WALL series are dynamic discharge systems with motorized opening functions, fitted with roof-mounted extractors for smoke extraction in the event of fire. The WALL/DUCT series are axial wall-mounted fans with fiberglass-reinforced plastic rotors and a motorized opening function. Both types are designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -25°C to +40°C continuously, and up to 300°C/2h or 400°C/2h for smoke extraction applications. They are suitable for use in explosive environments (THT/WALL) and non-explosive environments (WALL/DUCT).

Important Technical Specifications

The fans are available in various models with different power supplies, speeds, maximum admissible current, installed power, tilting angle blades, airflow maximum, sound pressure level, and approximate weight.

Power Supply and Wiring: The fans can be configured for 230V, 400V, or 690V operation, with both Delta and Star wiring options. The wiring diagrams illustrate connections for U, V, W phases and neutral (N) for Star configuration.

Usage Features

Installation: The installation of these devices must be carried out by qualified personnel, familiar with the installation, supervision, and maintenance of this type of equipment. The manual provides detailed instructions and diagrams for mounting the fan on a wall (Fig. 3) or within a duct system (Fig. 1 and Fig. 2). Key steps include:

  • Secure mounting: The fan must be firmly secured to ensure safe operation.
  • Duct connection: Ensure proper connection to the ventilation duct, including grilles, accessories, or an appropriate duct section to guarantee adequate airflow.
  • Motorized opening: The equipment includes a motorized hatch to guarantee water-tightness and prevent water entry.
  • Electrical connection: The electrical connection must be made according to the diagram provided in the document (Fig. 4) and on the cover of the connection box. A specific certified electrical connection for smoke extraction fans (THT/WALL) is required, adapted to fire safety regulations. For general ventilation (WALL/DUCT), a suitable cross-section cable for the current used by the equipment is needed. It is important to verify that the voltage of the motor is higher than the mains voltage.
  • Protective elements: An external protective component (a relay, magneto-thermal protection system, or fuse) must be installed in accordance with current regulations. The equipment's earth connection must be connected.
  • Speed control: If a motor speed control is used, it must be guaranteed that the motor will operate correctly.
  • Start-up: Before starting the fan, ensure the hatch is closed. After start-up, it is important to check that the motor is turning correctly, without vibrations or unusual noises. A check must be made to ensure the motor's actual power consumption does not exceed the level stated on the equipment label and that it does not heat up excessively. The machine must not be switched on and off intermittently, as this could damage the winding of the motor or the insulation, due to overheating.

General Information:

  • Always check the products received.
  • After unpacking the equipment, it must be checked to make sure that it is not damaged. Damaged products must not be installed.
  • This equipment must not be used for purposes other than those for which it was designed; it must only operate under the conditions described in this manual.
  • In the event of a defect or malfunction, inform the authorized representative, describing the problem, to coordinate a devolution or possible repair.
  • Before starting up the equipment, it is necessary to ensure that the safety and installation instructions in this document have been read.

Transport, Storage, and Handling:

  • Always store the equipment at the points provided for this. Do not lift it by the electrical cables, connection boxes, or the air inlets or outlets.
  • Before installation, store the equipment in a clean, dry place, protected from inclement weather.

Safety:

  • Do not disassemble or modify the equipment. This could negatively affect the equipment or even cause accidents.
  • Do not put your fingers or any objects into the protective grilles on ducts, inlets, or outlets. If there is an accident, immediately disconnect the equipment's power supply.
  • Never utilize an uninsulated cable.
  • Do not operate the equipment if it is installed in a forced way on an uneven or unstable surface.
  • Do not perform equipment inspection or maintenance without first checking the following:
    • Having disconnected it from its electrical supply.
    • That all its components are at rest.
  • The equipment must not be operated unless it has been properly installed and the inlet and outlet have been protected. If necessary.

Maintenance Features

Maintenance: Maintenance must be performed by qualified personnel.

  • Bearings are greased for life. Nevertheless, changing them every 25,000 hours of effective running time is recommended for WALL/DUCT models and 20,000 hours for THT/WALL models.
  • If the fan is not equipped with an air filter, the only maintenance required is to clean the impeller; this must be done at least once a year.
  • Care must be taken when cleaning the impeller, in order not to affect its balance.
  • Do not use chemical cleaners or aggressive substances, as they could damage the equipment.
  • If a part must be replaced, consult the distributor.
  • The equipment has two covers at the rear for maintenance or repair purposes, through which the actuator can be accessed (Fig. 1).

Disposal: Careless or negligent disposal of the equipment may cause contamination. The disposal process must be carried out in compliance with the standards and regulations applicable in the country.

Warranty: Incorrect use of the equipment and failure to observe the instructions in this manual may result in cancellation of the warranty.
